You misunderstood my point. I mean the minority families interact with each other while white families stick to themselves. The white families don't even talk to the other white families. It is very, very strange.

Why is it wierd that they act the same in a crisis that they do in non-crisis situations? Minority families seek a communal path...get someone else to do this for me. They have been trained to be dependent on others in return for votes. Non minorities who are not dependent on government and other people can take care of themselves like they always do. You think I will need to beg someone for ammunition?

Probably the most inefficient way ever devised to open a can.

Are you saying Platy and I have a mental disorder? I really like being alone :) I lived in my house for 5 years and never really ever spoke to my neighbors. Ammar started to chat them right up though. I only spoke to one occasionally and mostly I just tried to hide.

None of my posts have ever been helpful. Be forewarned.

I like being alone too. At this point my friends don't even call me to do stuff anymore because they know I will just say no. I guess they finally got the message that I'll call if I want to hang. They're ok with that.

Exactly. Most of my friends live spread out across the country. My closest friend to the new place lives in Little Rock, 2.5 hours away. So... obviously we don't meet up that much.

Depends how high you are. "You and your f'king rope."

I prefer soft cash.

In all seriousness, a roll of quarters is a must have since you may have to relocate at odd hours of the night and vending machines may be the only thing open for food.

And you misunderstood my point.

White families tend to be mom, dad and a couple of kids all in one house. The really have no reason to talk to other families since they're self-sufficient on their own.

Minority families tend to be grandma with her daughter, the daughter's kids, uncle Pooky when he's not in jail, one of the baby's daddies when he's not in jail, and maybe one of nana's "friends" when he's not in jail. Since only one of those folks have a car, they have no choice but to interact, especially since the one with the car is not the same one with the license.

By the very nature of the revolving door in their households, and subsequent interaction among other "available" reproduction-aged folks in other households, there's going to be more interaction. Plus, everyone knows the weed guy and the bootleg man. More interaction.

White folks don't interact like that. They purposefully move away from everyone they know so they can hide in their big houses and not have to deal with anything at all.

Now that we're in the 21st century, I just get a real can opener. Same with the fire starters. Everyone's always saying, "Oh, you should have a flint and steel or the new magnesium stuff." Yeah, why not just carry a lighter or two?

You do want to be able to eat what's left, right? If you open it with that thing, how will you even find the pieces?

On a semi-related note, the Israeli Galil rifle actually features a bottle opener as one of it's design features.

After my shopping at Costco, was thinking about that 55 Gal. drum of bake beans :hehe:

They're definitely not a bad little tool to have around. But, if you have the option of using a crank operated can opener or a P-38, why use the P-38?

The only problem you run into with "survival food" is it often comes in very large quantities. Even the #10 cans most prep sites sell food in are too big for consumption in a single sitting. Then you run into storage problems and "what do we do with this now?" Many come with lids and/or buckets to keep stuff but how long are you going to keep that stuff? A day or two?

I'd say you're better off with regular old 12 or 16oz cans that you can consume as individual meals. They're more portable and don't put all your eggs in one basket. They also make better barter items since you can trade "some" of your stuff instead of all of it. I'm also guessing the end of the world will be a lot like now - Five 12oz cans of beans will get you more than one 60oz bucket. Marketing is marketing, even after the fall!

cause a p-38 takes up a lot less room.

One other thing with canned food - When I first started several years ago , I remember buying a few cans of beans and tuna every week. A couple of years after that, I remember throwing away a crapload of dusty old cans of beans and tuna. Bottom line if you're not going to eat beans and tuna, don't buy them.

Nowadays I buy stuff that we use. It helps to minimize waste, and if we ever do have to survive on canned food, it will be easier eating stuff we are somewhat familiar with. I also check a couple of times a year so I can donate stuff we won't use before it gets too close to expiration.
