one major disaster that affects a large region (volcano, earthquake, monster hurricane) - i believe would see civilization resort to the lowest denominator pretty quick for a while.

but if some hitler wannabe chunked a nuke or two at the major oil fields in the world, we'd all be barbarians by the end of the week.

Would you try to survive in place or make your way to somewhere else?

I know towns/cities have had to come up with plans post-Katrina. I think Jonesboro's plan is to defend against Little Rock and to a greater extent Memphis LOL. $10 says AR would finish demolishing the I-40 and the other bridge to TN and then the I-155 bridges to keep Memphis out. We have the New Madrid stuff to worry about. A couple weeks ago there was a 5.0 which really shook our apartment like crazy Ammar said.

And you could also consider how the folks in St. Petersburg sat starving for such a long period of time, dropping like flies... yet despite a minority of cases, they remained civilized.

didn't hear about the 5.0 - but i know of the new madrid fault. that one back about a century ago was felt here.

Last time it went it formed Reelfoot Lake. The Mississippi River flowed backwards for 3 days to fill it. It supposedly shook bells all the way to PA. That was it's small cycle. It also has a large cycle and we're overdue on that one. It's worse than the San Andreas for several reasons... it's a major fault but it doesn't release pressure like the SA fault does.. it builds. Also, the geology is different. Around the NM, everything is silty, sandy. Memphis is on an ancient beach. around the SA everything is on bedrock and waves slow significantly in strength. For us, everything will be harder and go for a much further distance. The NM goes up into MO and IL. So AR, TN, IL, KY, MO... all will be hit to an extent then also MS, and maybe LA. For sure though the River will also play into it. It is estimated to cause thousands of deaths when it goes. The fact that in the last year we;ve started to have earthquakes in NWA and central AR is possible indication that the NM pressure is really, really building. They have been between 2-5.0, most around 2s and 3s. They have been happening daily, sometimes multiple times/day.

My new job is on the 7th floor. Geologically, I am sitting on a death trap of sortsmin a building now meant to withstand a quake on top of delta silt. I'm still going of course lol. But... I do plan on having an earthquake kit in my locker in the building. I know that sounds laughable to some people, but seriously-- our quakes have increased at an alarming rate and the Nm is under 30 miles from me. I would prefer to be safe than sorry.

In addition, it would double as a storm kit. Just this past Thurs and Fri 9 people were killed in the storms that crossed OK and AR. Many, many things were destroyed. I just don't understand why people would laugh at the idea of preparing for that kind of thing. I think most people who prep for natural disaster hope it never happens.. but the rationale is you would rather be prepared and never have to use it than sorry and wish you did. If I was in that building when an earthquake struck and managed to live, Gd willing, then I would probably hope I was near my little kit. One thing I planned on having was enough rope to get down to the ground. My place is plate glass and looks out over the grounds. New studies done showed that the stairwells in buildings tend to become structurally unsafe in earthquakes because they swing in the quake and break attachments.. although they look fine. So I plan on avoiding them and clearly avoiding the elevator. I also plan on using the law of triangles

It's not right that the apartment should have swayed as much as Ammar said it did. So either he was scared.. or that thing has a ####### foundation and the delta silt is really causing issue too. I've been in 6.0s in CA and it wasn't like he described... so now I am not feeling good about our 3rd floor Apt either LOL. At least we don't have gas lines...

White families tend to be single families. Minority families are often several generations and/or branches on the tree. Simply put, there's more "family" in those communities so of course they'll interact more.

You misunderstood my point. I mean the minority families interact with each other while white families stick to themselves. The white families don't even talk to the other white families. It is very, very strange.

I didn't say anything about intelligence, which can be defined in many ways but to me is working with what you have a decent speed unless you are physically unable to do so in which case it is not your fault anyway. It was trendy at the time in the USSR. They also developed and built, in St Petersburg during the seige, with existing material, what would become the PPsH submachine gun...a gun for every Red Army soldier! (unique concept) Cheap, crude, easy to build, reliable, and completely inaccurate beyond 50 yards but who cares? Enough Germans died of acquired lead poisoning from the things.

In all seriousness, a roll of quarters is a must have since you may have to relocate at odd hours of the night and vending machines may be the only thing open for food.

White families tend to be mom, dad and a couple of kids all in one house. The really have no reason to talk to other families since they're self-sufficient on their own.

Minority families tend to be grandma with her daughter, the daughter's kids, uncle Pooky when he's not in jail, one of the baby's daddies when he's not in jail, and maybe one of nana's "friends" when he's not in jail. Since only one of those folks have a car, they have no choice but to interact, especially since the one with the car is not the same one with the license.

By the very nature of the revolving door in their households, and subsequent interaction among other "available" reproduction-aged folks in other households, there's going to be more interaction. Plus, everyone knows the weed guy and the bootleg man. More interaction.

White folks don't interact like that. They purposefully move away from everyone they know so they can hide in their big houses and not have to deal with anything at all.

Now that we're in the 21st century, I just get a real can opener. Same with the fire starters. Everyone's always saying, "Oh, you should have a flint and steel or the new magnesium stuff." Yeah, why not just carry a lighter or two?
