It will be the Wild Wild West all over again so if us non-prepared people have bigger guns we will rob you for your 2 week supply of canned beans.

If your skepticism is any indicator, it's you who will most likely end up being robbed of your supply of baked beans.

Here's a question.

What "obligation" do you think those who did prepare, have to share the goods with others who didn't?

neighbors, in laws, co-workers, friends?

Those who believe that the US is heading towards a lawless society due to some catastrophic societal collapse are not the kind of people who believe in little things like obligation so why on earth would you speculate on it? Either you think that everyone is out to get you and the only way to survive is to squash those around you or you don't.

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Not true.

Not true.

The premise of the collapse is that people will lose all sense of obligation for anyone else. Nothing else would explain such a catastrophic collapse.

I only need to succeed once in taking everything you stashed away from you. You have to succeed every time to keep it.

Thats why getting away from people is your best bet, if you are used to rural life. In some respects, I'd like to get back to missouri if i could what with the many caves there. 68F sounds nice in a post energy world.

Adding to the paranoia, I'd go with an island somewhere not in the direct path of bad storms and off the beaten path of major population centers. Large enough for a few families willing to help themselves out, including defense, yet small enough to have a sense of community.

Do you think people are going to be nice to each other in the midst of war, famine, pestilence, and hunger?

I hope so, but I seriously doubt it.

The logical step now is to make a list of who on this site would band together, and who would perish for X or Y reasons (those reasons would demand a separate list each- one for perishing for lack of preparation and another for those that are removed from humanity for being annoyances to any form of a cohesive community).

Well we are all fvcked if there is a collapse of the magnitude you speak of.

I really don't want to live in a world where I have to guard my 2-week supply of baked beans with an AK-47. Do you?

India, gun buyback and steamroll.

Are you saying you'd rather die than live like this?

Well, I could live in a (peaceful) small community of hunters and gatherers for the rest of my life if I had no other choice. But if every week we are waging wars and being invaded by other small communities rofl.gif , and we are losing men and women in battle over our baked bean supply then yes, I would rather just die.

If opsec is in practice then no need to get into a fire fight. If it is you against the world you need to get lucky every time .They only need to get lucky once. As far as having food stored away it makes sense. Perhaps nothing major will happen. You or someone in your family could lose employment. How nice it would be to have months of supplies to get you through a difficult time frame. My brother helps out at a local food bank. He has talked to many people who hit it in just after a few weeks of being layed off from work. $40,000 autos and the 5 year old has her own cellphone. No food in the house. As far as long term problems on a national scale.....1/3 of the population is on some form of meds. Every one who gets a check from the government will be screwed. Most only live from week to week. They will head to the fema camps. (superdome any one)

What percentage of the population is very overweight. (death from hunger ect.. before they reach a safe place.

The ones that reach this safe place what then....You camp out on someone elses property. Society in the usa has NO skills to survive a 1800's lifestyle. Victor Hanson was quoted in the WSJ weekend edition as saying "Our society is full of ignorant urbanites who don't know how to make what they use. "Those who ,in extremis, are able to produce their own food and shelter are far more autonomous, are far more able to react to adversity.Every thing your grand parents knew has been replaced by modern society. IE... cellphone twitter and computers.

If more citizens were armed, criminals would think twice about attacking them, Detroit Police Chief James Craig

Florida currently has more concealed-carry permit holders than any other state, with 1,269,021 issued as of May 14, 2014

The liberal elite ... know that the people simply cannot be trusted; that they are incapable of just and fair self-government; that left to their own devices, their society will be racist, sexist, homophobic, and inequitable -- and the liberal elite know how to fix things. They are going to help us live the good and just life, even if they have to lie to us and force us to do it. And they detest those who stand in their way."
