my grandpa was the most prepared (or paranoid) person I've ever met. he kept tons of canned goods, tons of water, those mre meals, dry firewood, etc.

People who went through the depression understand very well what is needed to survive.

I like the idea of having a lifetime supply of *everything*. Dishwashers, computers, DVD players, TVs, stereos - anything electronic that can break and you won't be able to replace. Also, things like tequila, whiskey, beer, wine, champagne.

Ample wind and solar power and a secure perimeter armed with robotic guns to protect your base. 7 billion bullets to arm the robotic guns - one for every person alive.

Was your grandpa alive during the great depression? Did he happen to fight any of the wars?

Often, after folks have seen first-hand what happens they promise themselves it'll never happen to them and they take steps necessary to see that it doesn't.

My grandpa was in the army and went to Korea but I don't really know details. He wasn't alive during the depression but my great grandparents were. They set up so much stuff for our family in case in happened again.

I don't know if he was there during the korean war or just after. I'll have to ask my mom. I think he joined the army when he was pretty young though.

I was just thinking about this. I guess I've never really worried about this because I know any preparation I could ever think of has already been taken care of on many levels.

The logical step now is to make a list of who on this site would band together, and who would perish for X or Y reasons (those reasons would demand a separate list each- one for perishing for lack of preparation and another for those that are removed from humanity for being annoyances to any form of a cohesive community).

I already have my list, but that would be telling. Sleep well, my friends.
