My husband was able to do a successful biometrics walk-in today at the East Hartford office!! :)

Has anyone who has done walk-ins seen a benefit from it yet? We need to get AP by May 24 and even though the biometrics isn't for the AP we are hoping it helps speed up the processing of everything!

wow at last..i saw someone in the same area as mine xD

so i didn't know we can do walk-ins in the east hartford :(!!!! this is in the silver lane, right? what a bummer... T___T

but i think it speeds up the process, yeah... ^_^

lol i got too excited seeing someone from CT XD

Hi Liz!! I thought we were the only Connecticut-ers on here as well :)

The East Hartford office was empty when we went this afternoon. He was able to walk right up and complete the biometrics in 15 minutes. We were a little worried because everyone seems to have a different experience depending on the office they go to (and we live in SW CT so the drive wasn't exactly around the corner!) but we were pleasantly surprised.

Do you guys think or know if the location of the office you have your biometrics done at effects processing time?

From what I know, the ASCs are only support centers and don't actually do any processing themselves - they just deal with the biometrics. It's the USCIS field offices that handle the actual applications, so I doubt the specific ASC you are assigned to will have any effect on processing times, since they do not deal with the applications.

By looking at older timelines here on VJ, in some cases early biometrics seems to expedite EAD and AP a little (maybe by a week or two), but doesn't really have any effect on the interview dates or issuing of the actual GC. I've also read here that USCIS is issuing the EAD and AP as one document now - basically, the EAD card functions as the AP as well. So, whenever one comes, the other comes as well. Most people seem to get their EAD and AP in a month or so from biometrics - but then again, some take much longer. It's really hard to speculate on the timelines, since there seems to be big variations even within the same USCIS office.

Yeah I know they aren't processing centers but they have to send the information out so I would think I lighter case load would affect how quickly things move along...That is good to know about the EAD/AP though I am not concerned about the GC coming any sooner its really the AP that we are worried about!

I think it is all send electronically and USCIS probably gets the info that biometrics has been taken pretty much immediately.. So I don't think the specific ASC makes any difference in processing times.

it's all online, system, you have your A# (like an account number), they enter it to the system, all is already connected,

i watched my technician, he submitted in front of me using his computer, (screen said, `something submitted successfully`, USCIS knows this immediately.

When we sent ours , we sent my husbands most recent tax account transcript for 2009, six months of Payslips, a letter from his employer that stated my husbands salary scale, his hours and how much his annual salary is.

I didnt send 2010 as we havent filed yet and are going to file an extension.

I didnt send tax returns for the past three years as he made so little in 2008/2007 that it made no sense sending it but because of who he works for, Im pretty sure they know that he has to have all his taxes up to date in order to pass the background checks to get the job in the first place. That's just a theory I have.

If they want us to file 2010 we will but I really want to wait for my ssn in order to file one time. We had to amend taxes last year and it took a while to get it through the system.

Hi! Just a quick question... So when you receive your EAD card from mail, what's the next thing to do? I don't have a Social Security Number yet, so can I apply for that already with the EAD card on hand? What else do I need to do with the EAD, how about as regards taxes? Should I apply for a tax number/IRS number? Thanks :) :) :)

if you already got your EAD in the mail, go ahead, apply for SSN at your local SSA Office, then you can use that SSN for the tax, driver's license, work, etc. Since EAD is the card you'll show while your AOS is pending so you can work already. :)

Like what Myopia said, she, too is waiting to be able to apply for SSN, I, myself is on the same spot as well. We have a tax agent, doing our tax paperworks, he went ahead filed for my ITIN, but once I have a SSN, I can call him right away so that he can file the tax papers in a normal way, since my hubby and i did it as a joint tax return.

well sorry to hear that, I guess you the second one who had an RFE here, well USCIS is so strict on their 864 evidence requirements, a simple w2 surely wouldn't be enough

we have sent, last 3 years Transcripts, 10-09-08, a 2010 w2 and 6 payslips. didn't sent no employment letter it's really stupid why they ask that since you know, job is the same since 2009 december, w2 clearly shows the current employer, why sent a employment letter so we didn't

Last year when we filed our state taxes, NY state said we had to get an employment letter because they said W2's were being forged.

So you dont know why they ask for what they ask for but sometimes it's just worth it to give them what they need even if you dont have to.

Timeline

For those who already have a SSN, but are waiting for EAD because the work visa has expired, will it be required for them to go to the social security office prior to getting employment or will they be able to start working immediately?

Every time I try to check my status online, it tells me my receipt number isn't valid even though I am taking it directly off the NOA hardcopy. Grrr, is anyone else still struggling with this?
