Ok let me try again.

I'm a bit confused about these statements on the US Embassy London's website, and I quote:

If the applicant…

is living in their country of nationality at their current residence for more than 6 months

AND

is 16 years old or older

THEN

the applicant needs a police certificate from the police authorities of that locality

OK so that ALL still makes sense, next however:

If the applicant…

lived in a different country for more than 12 months

AND

was 16 years or older at that time

THEN

the applicant needs a police certificate from the police authorities of that locality

OK so here is my situation. I have been living in the UK for over 9 years now. So the first statement makes sense to me.

I lived in South Africa for 27 years before that. So does the next statement apply to me as well? Maybe I'm just complicating a basic thing, but if you have not lived in another country for 9 years then does this still apply? I'm asking because dealing with the South African Police Service is an absolute pain, and if I can, I'd prefer not to deal with them at all, but if I have to, I'd rather start earlier than later...

Hope someone can help. :)

It's often worded that you will need a police certificate from any country where you lived for 12 months since your sixteenth birthday.

Thank you. That's what I thought just wanted to get another opinion. I'll just suck it up and have to deal with the SAPS...just part of all the fun.
