Argent we just got back from overseas about 3 weeks ago. My husband brought the 1 year extension letter along with his expired green card and we had no trouble at all going through immigration in the airports. When we came back & went through JFK airport, the immigration officer said they get a lot of fraud letters, so they send us to another section after our passports are stamped for arrival and it only took like an extra 5 minutes for them to verify the authenticity of the extension letter. We had no problems at all and everything went smoothly. So you should be fine with the extension letter & expired green card for international travel. :)

I'm updating our status... I've received text and email messages today that my hubby's green card is in production as of yesterday (June 13). We should expect to receive it in the mail in 30 days. Yay

Do you need get your passport stamped if you are planning to travel? Would the letter we received stating the 1 year extension not suffice? We are planning an overseas trip but would like to avoid the hassle of making an infopass appt. since we'd have to go to the USCIS San Antonio office to get the stamp (we live in Austin).

I'm not sure why they give different advice after the interview, but both the interviewer and the notice they sent in the mail said to get the passport stamped if you intend to travel before your new green card arrives. The advice for removal of conditions WITHOUT an interview is jsut the one year letter extension and the old green card.

Finally got the robo-email that card production has been ordered, dated Nov 3. Online status reflects the same. Hopefully the GC will show up in the mail soon.

Here's the timeline:

ROC interview August 18, 2011. Interviewer gives verbal approval.

Letter arrives approximately a month later stating that approval occurred on August 19.

On October 28 we did an infopass appointment to see what the problem was. She checked the computer system and said the paperwork only got sent out on Oct 21.

The robo-email for card production was Nov 3.

So about a week and a half delay attributed to sending and receiving from the local office to card production center.

And two months sitting at the local office collecting dust, apparently.

May 7, 2007 -- I-129F K1 sent to NSC

Dec 26, 2007 -- K1 Visa approved.

Sep 16, 2008 -- AOS/EAD/AP sent to Chicago

Apr 01, 2009 -- Conditional green card arrives.

Feb 19, 2011 -- Mailed I-751 Packet to lift conditions

Nov 11, 2011 -- Permanent GC rev'd in mail.

Apr 25, 2012 -- Mailed N-400 Naturalization

Aug 16, 2012 -- Citizenship Interview. Approved.

So we went to the Infopass appointment this morning to both get a passport stamp for travel and ask again why the green card hasn't arrived in +60 days. Lady says that as far as she can tell, and she says she doesn't know why, the approval was actually just one week ago, Oct 21, not August 19 like it said in the letter they sent us a month ago. But she says the paperwork is now on its way to get the green card. I've heard that before. So we got the passport stamp. They won't let you keep the temporary green card if you get the passport stamp, so we had to surrender the GC. The passport stamp is good for one year and indicates temporary permanent residence status as well as work authorization.

It seems like once it gets sent to the local office, everything gets monkeyed up. The website doesn't update, in your case you get phantom letters. Be sure to post when you do get your GC in the mail. When you made your info-pass appointment, which option did you choose? I didn't see one for getting the stamp.

Officially 90 days is up for us on Monday the 21st. However, the Infopass will let me set an appointment for Thursday the 17th. I'm wondering if I should go ahead and schedule that, or keep checking until it will let me make an appointment after the 21st.

I've got the name of the immigration officer who told us 4 weeks; wish I could look up his email or extension and ask him what's going on. He was so nice, and so insistent that we wouldn't need to worry about the 90 days timeline on the official paperwork and that for sure it would be no more than 4 weeks before we had card in-hand.

When you made your info-pass appointment, which option did you choose? I didn't see one for getting the stamp.

There is an option about not yet receiving your permanent resident card. I think basically it is a walk-in status check, but once you're there you can ask for the stamp. Since you can schedule just to get the stamp you don't really have to worry about 90 days, etc. Once there you can get the stamp and also have them check case status.

Sorry for the late answer...my decision date (approved) was 10/19/2011 but I got the approval letter 10/24/2011 and the card came 10/31/2011. Again, my online status didn't say anything other than "petition received" and I never got an email or anything when the decision was made.

Hi Guys,

I got a dumb question to ask. Once you receive the card once approved, what you do with the old one? Does it need to be sent back or just keep it?

Just Keep it till u get citizenship interview. When u go for citizenship interview it will be asked to surrender it.
