The part I find most sad is... there is so little real art in this country to begin with.

I agree, given what was paid in 1990 for a "painting" which looked basically like a very simple (such as Ireland, France, Italy--the painting was simply a bunch of stripes on cloth) flag by Canadian government (to top it off, it was claimed that the "painting" would become a "landscape" if turned sideways).

We have this popcorn-art every where now.

Even Robert Mapplethorpe knew the difference, just look at how his own home was decorated, as opposed to the stuff he sold to others.
