Overdue Petitioners

To all overdue petitioners - If USCIS was proactive and effectively communicating about the status of your case even though it has taken this long, would that have helped ease your frustration? I put USCIS because as you may have read there are tons of poor souls that are overdue approvals (or at least a dahamn decision) at CSC, but there are some poor souls in the same situation at VSC. This is not to draw up any trouble, or to be disrespectful to many of your situations. I had read that this was one of the many irritations of those pending approvals. Therefore, I wanted to explore that thought of how much of a difference would it have made if USCIS was effectively communicating the status of your case, given the same situation? Please chime in on other aspects that could be improved or any other comments.

May you all find peace and resolve!

Cheers!!!

Sheriff Uling

NOTE: I am NOT addressing recalled petitions. When USCIS recalled approved petitions, they completely crossed the line. It was an injustice that was borderline criminal in action, at least that is my opinion.

Uling,

I think at this point (speaking for myself only) that it is the content in the communications that is lacking. The fact that things are "on hold" or that you are at this stage in the process... that is already being communicated effectively through the online status reports.

But, what is frustrating is understanding why or how this can be taking so long. This whole ordeal defies understanding. And no amount of communication can seem to explain adequately why we must wait so long.

Of course, the communications are only as good as the trustworthiness of those who distribute the news... At this point most of us are fairly jaded about anything USCIS tells us. The deadlines are adjusted willy nilly - what we expect one is changed to our detriment the next. So, a reliability and trust needs to be established before we can trust the communication from USCIS. And, that only will come from exemplar performance on its part IMO.

First Uling I want to say that I always respect your words in all threads. I want to answer your question about wether or not it would ease the frustration if more information was given about someones case when they call the USCIS. My petition was like many people delayed because of IMBRA. I would have to say in my own situation not ever dealing with government services outside of the garbage man and city hall for a permit to do some work on my house this experience was quite disturbing. First let me note that there are estimates that 7,000 to 10,000 illegal immigrants enter the US daily !!!! Here I am just a normal guy with no criminal record (although I do agree with IMBRA) that is just for once trying to use the benefits, outside of the garbage man, afforded to me by my government because of my citizenship. But yet they can give to me no imformation about what is going on with my case at anytime. Only that its in processing !!!But they have no problem giving benefits to illegals that enter into our country. I mean come on the illegals have a right to a lawyer if they get caught in our country. HELLOOOOOO !!!! They are here illegally and they are criminals. Send them back with no thought. So I ask my government when do you stop and respect the citizens of this great country and treat them with the respect that they deserve. Give them what they deserve. An answer !!!! Thats all we ask. And to answer the question finally. YES it would ease the pain. Albeit not cure the pain but at least I would know whats going on.

Good luck to all of us and our futures.

16/10/2006- Interview date- I'm nervous and my fiance is cool calm and collective. And she's the one that has to do the interview.

The more time the spend communicating or answering questions, the less time and people they have to work on the actual cases themselves.

This process is NOT for the impatient or those who expect constant feedback.

Just do what they tell you on the airlines... sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride!

So you think that the people posting our case status online, answering the phone or answering emails are adjucators??

Yes Uling, I think it'd help if we had an idea of how things work and of when we could expect an approval. The stress of not knowing what tomorrow is gonna bring kinda gets to you after 6 months of being left in the dark.

I'll tell you one thing, there are one heck of a lot more taxpayers than there are visa applicants, but they sure as heII get the taxes collected efficiently.

hehehe

That's because they're collecting money!!! You have a point about the IRS, but taxes are a little more automated than reviewing petitions and all the various forms of documentation. What the USCIS does is definitely more labor intensive than what the IRS does.

No, its not adjudicators sending e-mails or answering phones, but I'm sure they could be doing something more useful than updating case status' online! Do you people realize that before the internet, none of this was possible, and everything was done by snail mail? Things have changed, and improved, yet it is never enough.

Everyone wants instant gratification. Patience is STILL a virtue!!! :luv:

Just posting in some replies from kitkat and nfs.

Um, yeah.

At least we would know our files had not been "transferred" to a pile under someone's desk gathering dust. It just adds insult to injury when you have to beg a senator or congressman, again and again and again, to find out if your case actually still exists somewhere in the black hole.

I have never before dealt with anything quite so weird as this! If you are approved fairly soon, that's fine, but if not, you just wait and wait and WAIT. No way to talk to anybody. No way to find out if it will happen tomorrow or next month or next year. You can't make any plans and you don't know if there's a problem simmering or what. That's really hard to accept! Considering that we pay fees, I would think they could do better. At least they could be handling applications in the order received and giving you a timeframe that wouldn't just shift every week or two. No wonder we are all going crazy!

Cheers!!!

If the communication was accurate, I would have been much more content. And for those saying that it would slow down the process, that is BS. They are giving (or were) wrong information. If they was going to give out anything, it should have been accurate...if it was accurate, then there would have not been as many inquiries trying to get some info....

If I knew it would be this long, it would have stopped me from going crazy every day at work waiting for an approval and trying to keep my sanity...yes, if I knew approximately the time, i could have more prepared her instead of the constant disappointment.

I have a long way to go before I'm approved. However, I thought about how it's going to feel each and everyday I wait longer. I'm afraid that I'll end up in name checks for a long time and I won't be able to find out unless I eventually contact some congressman to help. I think it would be nice if my future conversation with USCIS would go as follows:

Hello Mr. Solomon.... how are you doing today??

ok, let me check the status for you, one second.....

ahh!! yes, your file was placed in name checks on August 23rd.... looks like you have some convictions which need further investigating.

no, I'm sorry, I can't really give you a sure time the check will be completed. Each case is different. Why don't you give us a call back in 15 days to see if we've made any progress.

Sure Mr. Solomon, we will send you an e-mail informing you when your out of the checks.

Have a great day Mr. Solomon and congratulations on your future wedding plans.

Fast forward after name checks cleared.

Yes Mr. Solomon, how can I assist you today.

Well according to my records you were cleared from name checks on September 30th, I bet that's a relief.

Well, unfortunately theres still plenty of petitions from June being processed, so your wait time could be another 30 days.

ok, you too, thank you!! bye Mr. Solomon

For me, I don't like the feeling of not knowing what's going on. If they would just let you know what department or stage your in, it would do away with that horrible feeling of being lost. The only counter you have for this feeling is accepting the process for what it is and knowing that lost is what you will be.

This is what I sincerely do not understand.

You know exactly what's going on, where you are at and what the next step will be.

You mailed your petition and it ws received on July 6. You got and RFE and you respondied to it in theri timeframe. Your case is now in line for adjudication. You will be notified when that is complete.

They don't tell anyone *every time* they handle their paperwork---to what end? So you could know it went from the mail room to the cases pending room?

I know you guys are wound up, but I think you are now focusing on the unreasonable. You are in the "petition filing" stage. After that will be the Consulate stage. There just aren't that many details to know, or rather, you knowing every internal processing step (most of which are available on the internet if you want to read about them) is not going to make a whit of difference to the outcome.

meauxna - The FAQ Addendum, per john and marlene, is absolutely priceless. I love it. By the by, you may be right about your assessment concerning petition process and waiting time. What I feel is that it's like calling a company and always getting an automated system. Folks just feel better being able to have that person to person interaction they can pulse, get information from, make suggestion, or complaints. I must admit that some folks have been waiting entirely too long. Cheers and thanks for blessing my thread!!!
