US Embassy in Dominican Republic...question

Hi, everyone.

We are just finishing up our last leg with the NVC by submitting the DS-230 form with required documents and photocopies.

I am readling up on the next steps once the paperwork is sent over to the embassy in Santo Domingo, DR. There is a specification for this particular embassy that an additional police background check needs to be done which is to be submitted to the CO doing the interview,a receipt that needs to be presented that a certain fee was paid and passport pictures need to be given. This is all stuff the applicant (beneficiary) needs to handle.

My question is: does anyone have any experience at this embassy in regards to if the petitioner, who is required to be there with their significant other, needs to provide any certified copies of their personal civil documents? Granted, I provided a copy of my birth certificate and divorce decree when I originally submitted the I-130 petition, but do I personally need to bring any original copies of this stuff to the interview? I know about all the supporting documents, but wanted to ask about the civil stuff. I have looked all over the government website about documents required and it doesn't say a thing about the petitioner bringing civil docs.

Is this right? Or should I go ahead and request more certified copies of my birth certificate and divorce decree to present at the interview?

Anyone that knows, I would really appreciate your insight.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Also, bring US Passport, Affidavit of Support (I-134, I-864), along with Divorce Decree, Birth Certificate. I'm sure members that have gone the CR1 route can provide you with more info.

was a birth certificate required for an I-130? because i don't think it was required for I-129, and we have our interview on tuesday, and my fiance has his birth cert, but i dont have mine....is that a problem???

I had mine. They didnt even ask to see it. But its good to have all your background information just in case they ask. They really should have a copy of it since its sent with your I129f. But sometimes during interviews they ask to see an original copy of things. Your passport proves you are a US citizen so dont go crazy over it.

Thank you....

This is in regards to a CR-1 visa. The fiance visa's petition paperwork goes to the NVC who then immediately transfers the paperwork to the indicated embassy. However, with a spousal visa, we have to work with the NVC first and submit our affidavit of support documents and the beneficiary documents before the case is transferred to the embassy.

After all of this paperwork is collected, does the petitioner have to bring additional copies of his/her civil documents? I really need someone to respond that has gone the spousal visa route because the paperwork collection phase is a little different than with the fiance visa.

But, I do thank you all for taking the time to answer. I really do appreciate it.

Amesa,

You might get more answers asking VJ members with Dominican beneficiaries who just completed the process. For instance, Kikapoo and her husband just had the interview recently so you could ask her directly.

In my opinion, you should bring certified copies of originals to the interview because they may request these documents. For instance, I obtained certified copies of my marriage and divorce decree in case they ask me to produce these documents at my fiance's upcoming interview. I do believe they can ask you for originals of any document you sent in as a copy so you should be prepared, just in case.

Best wishes! (F)
