I take it you don't have any kids.

Kids coming up today will have a new reality, in fact, I am quite sure the old reality will be recast as "The dark days".... much in the same way as some are already recasting prior generations (before me) in a darker light, how many times have we heard the forties and fifties were actually a time period would would not want to live in?

Anyway, education and the power to earn money may be important to our measure of what success is, but I respect, other people hold other things higher on the ladder of importance.

For one thing, the New America will know how to at least reproduce: any society which cannot even be bothered to have enough kids to replace themselves is piss poor and should move aside.

It depends on who you ask. My parents and most of their friends immigrated here in the 70s and there is consensus among that particular peer group that America is a much nicer and friendlier place today than it was then. It's not just kids who believe that.

ps. I should add - they liked America in the 70s too. It's just that they like this America even more.

So, that's a "No".

See, America used to be that people were people took comfort knowing that their children will live a better live than the current generation is afforded. That part of America has died as it becomes ever more apparent that the middle class - once the backbone of this country - is being systemically dismantled. We're already living in a New America and - contrary to your assertion - it's not the place where people feel encouraged to reproduce. The numbers are on the table and they speak a very clear language.

IMO most people do not engage in the procreative act while thinking about the political and economic future of the country and of the implications of the rise of the tea party movement.

Not much of a fan of illegal immigration ...

It is not a big factor.

About 6 percent of the state's population is not documented, he said.

You're probably right. On the other hand, the conditions here and now do foster - or stifle - the reproductive process.

People tend to have more sex when they're unemployed with no electricity (natural disaster or the utility company cut them off after not having paid their bills - you pick).

It has been said often enough that it must be true: Family size is generally inversely proportional to both affluence and education. Some of it has to do with the demographics of cultural and religious backgrounds, much of it has to do with the financial incentives built into the tax code and the welfare support system.

Poorer people have more babies in other countries too - even in countries without social welfare nets.

True that. That could be a combination of higher infant mortality, lack of contraception, and in many countries, your children are your retirement plan. I know in the rural areas of many countries, there is not much to do besides drink and fornicate.

Its bizarre. I take it some people that reminisce on some idea of 'Good Ole Days' feel that today its much worse because they can't get away with certain behaviors that would target certain groups. But I don't want to rush to any judgements here. To give some of those old times, people did have a lot more respect for one another- as long (among many of them back in that time) as they were pretty much of the same kind as they were. That should say something about people then and people now.
