We were married by a Marriage commisioner but not in a courthouse.... The Bed and Breakfest my hubby and I had been to a few times had a little chapel on site... We got married there.... I never wanted a big fancy church wedding.. I just wanted something small and intimate with people there that I actually knew... I had to restrict my mom to 4 couple/friends.... she would have invited everybody she knew if I would have let her.. but I only wanted people there that I knew...

Sadly the people that owned the Bed and Breakfest sold the place... That was our special place and hubby and I had made plans to go back every once in awhile :crying:

How romantic :luv: I always wanted to get married on the cliffs of Negril as the sun was setting with our closest friends, and family *sigh*

We were married in a courthouse, and our witnesses were my mother, my sister, and my nephew. The day was one that I'll never forget (L) but we want to have a ceremony to include both our families (especially his parents and siblings), so we're planning a renewal of vows after our 2 year anniversary.

Yeah, that was one of sad things about our day... none of Hubby's family could make it to the wedding... :(

We only had about 16 people at our actual wedding , my family (mom & dad, 1 sister, 4 brothers and sister in law), my grandma, 2 aunts, 1 uncle and 2 of my friends, plus the marriage commisioner.. .. the chapel wouldn't have fit more people.... but we invited more people to attend the informal reception that we had at my parent's house...

I wanted to do that too. Not sure how many of my family members will be coming to JA but I hope they all start saving now because we've never had a family vacation.

Neither of us are religious so a church wedding was out. My husband's parents are very elderly and not able to travel and live 900 miles away. My mother passed away a month after we became engaged. My brother and his family live 1000 miles in the opposite direction and my husbands sisters live near his parents. We decided to have our wedding outside in the heritage gardens of a local historic site. A friend of ours who is a US Magistrate performed the ceremony. My father drove 2 days to joinus and a good friend of both of us also drove 2 days to join us. They were our witnesses. The only other guests were our friend's husband and young daughter. Afterwards we went to a local teahouse for refreshments, then home for dinner. It was an absolutely wonderful wedding and a lovely way to start a marriage.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

We haven't actually gotten married yet but assuming everything goes to plan, we're having our small courthouse wedding on March 17 (which has no meaning for us as a couple but meaning for me as someone with some strong irish ties who happens to be giving up her very irish last name), then having our big(ger) celebration with family on June 26. We'll be using June 26 as the 'official' anniversary date because it's also the date we started dating.

But really, we will celebrate both.

A big 'ol "Aw! (F) " to all of that!

My husb and I will celebrate both the anniversary of our terribly unromantic wedding (Aug. 25th) and our big family wedding (and hopefully members of his family will be able to make it) when we have it (hopefully sometime in November 2008) :)

We celebrate both...(L)(L)

We were married on New Year's Eve, so we just extend that celebration a bit further...hehe...AND we celebrate our wedding anniversary in July as the day we formerly shared our love with all our friends and family. And to a lesser extent, we celebrate the anniversary of the wedding ceremony we had here in the states once my hubster got here since both of the other events were in the UK.

You can never celebrate TOO much! :D

I proposed to her in Japan, we had planned on waiting until her family was ready & have a traditional Japanese wedding in Japan & A western Wedding in USA

Things worked out a bit differently. Her parents were not supportive of her marrying a westerner, so we returned to the USA together, became pregnant and decided to marry with or without her parents blessings.

Now they are ok and are slowly accepting the fact that their only daughter is married and has a family with a handsome Aussie~American Bloke!

We had a Civil/ ceremony wedding at the Santa Barbara Courthouse garden only 27 people attended it was informal with the exception of her Gown & my tux.

We then had a Japanese style reception at Carpenteria Beach.

We plan on having our Japanese wedding early next year upon our return to Japan.
