Sooooo...

Has anyone recently had a medical in London? The questionnaire says "Have you ever used tobacco?" Well, I have, but I am not a smoker and I don't want this to be any kind of hindrance to progress of my application.

Can anyone share any thoughts or experiences? Do you smoke and if so, did you have any issues? Should I attach a second peice of paper that says "yes, I smoked for 2 months when I was 17 and enjoy the occasional cigar"

Nov 2009 - Met for the first time whilst I was on tour in Cali

Mar 2010 - After staying in touch, met for a few nights at a trade show - It was very real!

Jul 2010 (Independance Day) - Met in San Diego. Knew we were meant to be together

Sep 2010 - Met in San Diego. Knew we wanted to spend our lives together. Started making plans.

Sep 27th 2010 - Found out that we were expecting a baby. Plans bought forward significantly! :-) Happiest man in the world.

Oct 12th 2010 - Sent I-129F pack to USCIS

Oct 19th 2010 - NOA1 Received

Nov 2010 - Spent a week with my lady in the UK

Dec 23rd 2010 - Battled with UK snow and Heathrow's incompetence to spend Xmas with my family

Dec 24th 2010 - Attended first scan and discovered we are expecting a baby boy!

Jan 9th 2011 - Left home to come back to the UK

Jan 21st 2011 - Requested Expedite from USCIS on medical grounds

Jan 27th 2011 - Expedite request approved.

Feb 2nd 2011 - NOA2 Received

Feb 3rd 2011 - Application left NVC to go to London. LDN number received.

Feb 9th 2011 - Packet 3 sent out

Feb 16th 2011 - Packet 3 sent to Embassy

Feb 18th 2011 - Requested expedite on interview

Feb 24th 2011 - Packet 3 forms logged

Feb 28th 2011 - Medical

Mar 1st 2011 - London Consular wrote with confirmation of an early interview. In 4 days time! PANIC! Woke up fiancé!

Mar 4th 2011 - Interview...APPROVED!!!

It's hard to know how much they really care about all those questions on the medical questionnaire...

From someone who recently had the London medical, I would tick the 'no' box...But that's just me, I'm not encouraging you to lie!

Ok, i read this and it makes me smile :) i also used to smoke, and i really dont understand how this can be an important question? How will they check if you smoked or not? Travel back in time? :) If i have a question like that i will click NO too. Who hasnt light up at least one cigg. in their teen years ...

But after your are done with ur medical, pleasa share how it went and what you did? And how was this an important thing for them to know.

If you're a smoker and get the lady doctor at Knightsbridge, she has been known to lecture people, but it's not grounds for inadmissablity to the US. No worries.

They ask because certain medial conditions may occur more frequently in people that smoke.

No, they ask because it's a general purpose medical questionnaire. It's not a grounds for inadmissibility, even if you are a chain smoker and have terminal lung cancer.

What about depression? Mine has never been, but had an accident four years ago and lost many, many pints of blood. He was put on 1 month of a med like prozac to bring back his energy level b/c he refused a transfusion-- is a blood donor and didn't want to be denied. Well, that med and depression is on his history. Ticking no is lying. Ticking yes is a red flag. I know you guys with your Visas say that we just have to prove the relationship is genuine, but we don't have them yet, so we're still on eggshells here.

The question says "Have you ever had any mental disorder or depression?" not "Have you ever taken Prozac?". They do not have access to you personal records, which is why they gather a medical history.

The purpose of a general medical question is to find things that may be associated with medical problems. Besides cancer, smoking causes other issues. They don't ask you if you eat fruit , why because eating fruit in normal quantities rarely causes medical problems. I never said it was about inadmissibility , it is about issues the person may present.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Yes, but unless those issues pose a health risk to people in the US then they are irrelevant. It's not up to the panel physician to determine if the beneficiary has unhealthy habits. It's up to them to determine if they have any health related inadmissibilities. Smoking has not been linked to any communicable disease that would make someone inadmissible on health grounds.

hi there

My husband also got his medical through London knightsbridge... he's a smoker... he replied yes, they gave him a standard x-ray.. end of story.

they wont knock you points for smoking ... they may lecture you ... but thats about it.. i would click yes, dont lie! EVER on an application.....
