D@mn straight it should be and if the Jews here don't like it they can ship off to Israel and live in the desert...same with anyone else that wants to live and abide by any other law than the laws of the United States of America.

They are not contradictory with American laws, hence why they are perfectly legal.

Get this straight, there is one law in this country, and that is the law of the courts of the United States of America.

No other laws count in the United States of America for the fact they would be considered ILLEGAL.

If anyone has a problem with that they can pack up and leave. Nobody is forcing anyone to live here.

That's not true, and it's clear that law is another subject that you know nothing about. I thought about trying to educate you, but I realize from experience that you enjoy being ignorant. It seems to give you cover.

Maybe they should have thought first before coming to this country. We have one Constitution of the United States of America. The law of the USA, no other law(s) shall apply in the United States of America. I say BRAVO to Tennessee !!!

It goes without saying that relifgious law should not be forced onto the population as a whole, but I do not think the state can say what one practices themselves. If a Catholic does not want to eat meat of Friday, or a Jew not eat pork...so what? No one should make laws to prevent you following your religion, just keep it to yourself.

Why_Ne, maybe you should read the Constitution before commenting on it. The same would go for dumb Tennessee legislators.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof

This edict applies to religious freedoms for Muslims and Jews, too. The US Constitution; Live it, Love it, LEARN it.

As long as a particular religious practice doesn't conflict with established societal norms, as in not running over your daughter because she dresses like a #######.

That is not a religious practice in any established religion, nor is such an action normal in any society. It is true that in some very poor, very poorly educated tribes such practices take place, but they are not normal or universally accepted.

Yes you are correct...those incidents are not accepted in Western culture. In some other country's it's the norm. And if you want to argue this point, I can post links to these incidents ...that went unpunished no less... until I suck up this sites bandwidth.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

There are lots of 'practices' that would greatly disturb your sensitive Western sensibilities that are, in fact, quite commonly accepted in certain parts of the world within certain populations.

Better yet, explain to "Madam Cleo" what happens sometimes in India when someone marry's out of their caste.

And yet, in the last two years, at least six attempts have been made to defend the practice on religious grounds, in the US.

And, we can throw a few other questionable practices in the mix, for some of the other religions, just to add balance.

I married out of mine, nothing bad happened.

That said, India's a large country and there are parts where bad things do happen. Madame Cleo is educated enough about the world to know.

Either "Madam Cleo" is not educated enough about the world to know these things and is talking out her ####### or "Madam Cleo" is trying to play everyone on here for stupid.

Why? Why should I travel down any stupid tangent you feel necessary to throw out there? There are all kinds of ignorant practices that go on around the world, and a lot of them target women, I'm well aware of that and guess what? Some of them go on right in the good ol' US, practiced by good old fashioned white males. So what? What has any of that got to do with sharia or religious law? NOT ONE THING. Oh, and by the by India does not institutionalize or condone murder, even for women who dress immodestly.
