Never mind insisting presidential candidates publicly display their birth certificates, what we need is an intelligence test for all those seeking public office.

They wouldn't be representative of the general population if they were intelligent...

voluntary

Unfortunately, that really depends on where you live.

There are regions in the world where Sharia law is not voluntary.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

I don't understand what the big fuss is all about. There is one law in this country and that is the law United States of America. No other law should nor shall exist in the United States of America.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

The fuss comes from the verbal hash which has become all things related to Islam. Sharia law is integral to every Muslim practicing Islam. But Sharia is not a word with a single meaning to all Muslims, it runs the gambit from benign rules to live your life by in a very personal way, to over the top imposition of draconian rules and punishments covering believers and non-believers alike.

Maybe they should have thought first before coming to this country. We have one Constitution of the United States of America. The law of the USA, no other law(s) shall apply in the United States of America. I say BRAVO to Tennessee !!!

Religious 'law' and secular law are different things. I feel sorry for you if you don't know that.

Get this straight, there is one law in this country, and that is the law of the courts of the United States of America.

No other laws count in the United States of America for the fact they would be considered ILLEGAL.

If anyone has a problem with that they can pack up and leave. Nobody is forcing anyone to live here.

The PROBLEM is that you don't understand. There is no contradiction between allowing people to practice religious law as proscribed by the various different denominations that are present in the US and secular law. Secular law is that which is upheld by the court system which is completely and entirely independent and takes precedence over any other practice that people wish to undertake, for religious or other reasons. Trying to outlaw any religious law that does not stray into the jurisdiction of secular law is contradictory to the American constitution which specifically allows freedom of the people to practice any religion that they so choose. It is exactly why there is and must continue to be separation of church and state. Church laws have no place in the judicial function of federal and state law no matter where people believe the morality of federal and state law derives from - the reality is that it is not mandated by any specific religious group and is applied uniformly to all - the US deliberately and with forethought denied any church having a special authority over the American people. Adherence to church laws is therefore entirely voluntary and not doing so has no judicial consequences.

It should be.

D@mn straight it should be and if the Jews here don't like it they can ship off to Israel and live in the desert...same with anyone else that wants to live and abide by any other law than the laws of the United States of America.
