Montana Tea Party wants to legalize hunting big game with spears (also: wants to declare global warming good for business!)

HELENA, Mont. – With each bill, newly elected tea party lawmakers are offering Montanans a vision of the future.

Their state would be a place where officials can ignore U.S. laws, force FBI agents to get a sheriff's OK before arresting anyone, ban abortions, limit sex education in schools and create armed citizen militias.

...

Some residents, Democratic Gov. Brian Schweitzer and even some Republican lawmakers say the bills are making Montana into a laughingstock.

...

Some of their bills are moving through the legislature. Others appear doomed: an armed citizen militia, FBI agents under the thumb of the sheriff and a declaration that global warming is good for business.

...

Schweitzer is watching, describing many of the proposals from the new majority as simply "kooky," such as a plan to make it legal to hunt big game with a spear.

...

Some Republicans have turned against the more aggressive tea party ideas.

"You are scaring the you-know-what out of them with this kind of talk," veteran Republican lawmaker Walt McNutt said. "This needs to stop and stop now. Stop scaring our constituents and stop letting us look like a bunch of buffoons."

You find anything wrong with actually "levelling field" (bringing down an elk or bison with a spear isn't exactly child's-play) in the case of big-game hunting?

For a political movement that claims it wishes to run government like a business, this is a lot like convening the top echelon of management in a resort in Grand Cayman to discuss the color of the corporate logo for their LinkedIn page.

There is no 'anti gun' crowd. There is a sane bunch of people who don't think every idiot, insane or impulsive person should have easy access to guns and ammunition however.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Hunting is fine, so long as the end result is your dinner.

Hunting for pleasure is not cool.

Hunting an angry buffalo with a spear should be a good spectator sport on the comedy channel, especially if the limit is one hunter to one buffalo.

It might make running with the bulls in Pamplona look positively safe.

Don't interrupt me when I'm talking to myself

At least the debate over whether or not the tea partiers are nutcases is finally over. The result is in - they are.

The only problem is that there is no real Tea Party. It is a label, but no real party. Maybe even a group of people, but nothing more.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

People who self-identify as tea partiers are tea partiers. Just like people who self-identify as Muslims are Muslims, regardless of what certain VJ members say
