Evening all,

First post here so forgive me if this has been covered before. My fiancée and I are starting the visa process for me to be able to enter the US. I've just had a good look over the US Embassy website in regard to vaccinations and the proof that is required. I live in a country other than the one I was born in and my vaccination records would be near on impossiple to obtain. I've not had any vaccinations for either measles, mumps or reubella but as a child I suffered them. How does this play into your proof of vaccination? Technically once you've had the disease you're immune to it because of the antibodies in the same way that immunisation works. Question is would I have to be re-vaccinted as a result? Or would the medical bloodtest negate the need because of proof of antibodies?

Hope you guys could shed some light!

I dont know how it is there, but in my country we have special vaccation passport, i will ask them to make notes about this there. Doctor is making decisions what is needed, there can be special cases, and ambessy follows this.

I had measles, mumps and chicken pox as a child. The information was recorded on my school records which I brought to the doctor who did my K-1 medical. She checked off the information and the dates I had the illnesses on the vaccination worksheet, then wrote "possible vaccination waver?" on the form below since all of my vaccinations were complete or medically inappropriate. Discuss this with the doctor when you have the medical. If your parents are still available, verify with them the dates you had the illnesses. It may well be that is all you will need. If not, then you may have to have the vaccinations instead. You can get those at the medical or wait until you arrive in the US and get them done here. It is probably easier to do them at home if you can- things are very pricey here.

I've read that other people have done the same. Also, the doctor will probably not ask you to take all the shots listen on USCIS site. I gues they'll determine which ones you'll need based on your age and medical history - at least that was what the doctor explained to me.

This is logical - but I would still check to see what the case is at your consulate. In Mexico for example, you can have all the proof in the world along with blood tests and they still make you get the vaccinations - there it's all about making the money.

I had to take a whole bunch of vaccines that I hadn't taken as a child. I just started to get them monthly throughout the process and by the time I went to get my medical done I didn't have to take any more shots.

I know in Canada, Adults between the ages of 18 and 64 only need Tetanus shot, MMR Combination Vaccine for: * Mumps * Measles * German Measles (Rubella) and Chickenpox (Varicella)...

In Canada if you are not sure or if you don't have proof you can get this test done called an antibody titers blood test... This can tell you if you have an immunity to chicken pox and if you had the MMR shot....

I am not sure if the requirements might be different in other countries though

just to add, with the OP being a male, its unlikely you would be given Rubella ( german measles vacc) In Australia, all girls were vaccinated at 14 yrs of age , as there are very serious complications to pregnancy if it were contracted at that time. I certainly remember there being no boys at that vaccination drive!
