Hi VJers,

I am adjusting my status after receiving a K-1 visa.

I received last week my bio appointment which is schedule for March 15th, which is in 3 more weeks.

I was wondering if I could walk-in to my local USCIS where I have my bio to be taken, before this March 15th.

Could you please give me advice on walk-in:

1/ How do I know if the USCIS local office do the walk in? (I suppose I just have to call them)?

2/ Does it matter if I already received my appointment?

3/ Am I eligible to do the walk-in? (I suppose anyone adjusting his status can do it if the office does it)

4/ Do I need to bring something more than what is requested on the Notice?

5/ Do I have to call them before to let them know which day I come?

Yesterday, my case was transfered to CSC.

I think my appointment is very late according to the time I received the NOA1 (more than one month).

I know some people have it much longer. But people who filed later than me have an appointment sooner than me.

And as my case was transfered, I think that it would be better if I got my biometric taken before these 3 weeks, as it will obviously delay my process.

Thank you very much and best regards,

Ben

1) You don't know until you try, the worse they will do is tell you to come back at your appointed time.

2) Yes, you need an appointment letter to be able to enter the facility.

3) See #1

4) Photo ID (Passport) and letter.

5) No way to call them unless a number is on the letter, and that usually has to do with asking for a postponement.

Transfer to CSC is a good thing  it usually results in an approval without an interview, however is something comes up, they can always request an interview.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

I've read on VJ about quite a few people who had successful walk-ins.

Like above, the worst thing they will do is turn you away and tell you to come back on your appointment date.

Ok thanks,

And if I do the walk-in do they give you a paper to say you made the biometrics?

Are you notified that the Bio have been done?

Just want to make sure that if I do a walk-in, they well notified it and avoid having any RFE or something saying that I was not present on March 15th, the actual date of my appointment!

They stamp your biometrics letter with a stamp to fill in their details, and they scan your barcode that's on the letter which registers it being done. Don't worry. no issue. :D

Thanks.

I think I will try

What is the strategy to present yourself?

You directly say that you had an appointment for a later date but you ask if it is possible to do it now?

or you just say that you want to do you fingerprints, and you respond when they ask you questions, and if you are unlucky they tell you that you need to come at the date written on the notice, and you try to tell them that you made 2 hours of public transportation to come and the appointment date is late so that your case will be delayed, to see if they accept?

lol

Any experience in walk-in should be very appreciated!

thanks,

Ben

We did a walk-in. Alexandria is VERY walk-in friendly, according to this board, haven't heard of anyone being denied. We went in on a Tuesday morning, brought the letter we received, they have someone at a desk right when you walk in asking for the letters - we didn't say anything, just showed it to her, she looked it and and told us to go ahead and have a seat and fill out the paperwork. The whole thing took maybe 20 minutes.

Ooo let me know how you go!

I did it!

I went this morning and it went smoothly!

When I arrived, the receptionist was on the phone, she asked me my notice my ID and just check my name and the purpose (I-485)

I had no security check.

then I just filed a piece of paper, took a number, and 5 min later it was my turn.

they took my finger prints and photo. They stamped my notice and signed it.

The guy told me I should receive my EAD in two or 4 weeks and my green card in 1 or 3 months but I dont think he has an idea on when my green card will be deliverd lol, he just take fingerprints!

Then I was gone. it was fast.

THey did not pay attention to the appointment date actually. So I think it really depends on the center and the person.

Objectively, there was no reason not doing it. THere is not thousand of people every day doing finger prints so they can accept one or two more people who came walk-in.

It was fast and people were kind.

I thank again VJers for the help!

Kindly regards,

Ben

My wife had her Bio this morning too, appointment at 8AM (this was in Buffalo). There was about a half dozen people there waiting for the doors to open. Among us was a fellow who, from what I could hear, had an appointment in San Francisco but was trying to do a walk in in Buffalo -- on the advice of his attorney. It seemed like he had moved since sending in the AOS application. The woman at the counter was not very receptive to him doing a walk-in. Her two points of contention were that he could be considered a no-show at the San Fran office if he missed his appointment there, and that the Buffalo office was allegedly booked solid today.

She told him that he could wait if he wanted and that maybe he could get in before 3PM. When we left at 8:20 he was still there and no one else had come in the meantime, which means they had basically already processed just about everyone who showed up at 8. I suspect he got his Biometrics done shortly after we left -- even though the woman at the office had been insistent that he shouldn't bother.

The lady was wrong about San Fran thinking he missed his appointment. A few people have had to do this. It works the same as doing a walk-in, scanning the barcode registers that you did it... doesn't matter where. Hope he got it done :)

I followed my mom to do a earlier walk in today. Receptionist/guard asked "why are you here today"? Your appointment is not until 3/17/11. My mother told him she just wanted to get it over with. They let her in. I went there about 6 months ago for a early walk in also. Only 2 people were in front of us. Ticket number 3.

Nothing try nothing done!

Good things come to those who wait. :)
