Transit visa question

Hello fellow JVers!!

My fiance book a flight from Iran to Miami with a connecting flight in Rome. Does he need a Transit Visa if he has his K1 visa in hand?? I have been Googling this topic for weeks to find conflicting answers. I called the airline but they had no clue what a K1, fiance or marriage visa was (shakes head) and he just told me that as long as he has a valid visa to America, its okay. But since he did not know what a K1 was, I was worried.

I just want to make double - triple sure, ya know??????

TWOV (Transit Without Visa): Visa required, except for Those who continue their journey to a third country by the first available flight within 48 hours and without leaving the airport. Passengers must also hold tickets with reserved seats and other documents for their onward journey.

This faciliity is not available at Bologna airport (BLQ).

The airline wouldn't know because its an airline it is not CBP. Airlines do not deal with K-1 they deal with flight check ins and booking flights.

LOL. I figured after I spoke with the guy but I did not know who else to ask.

When in Tehran you call an agency for a ticket, they won't sell a ticket unless they are sure you have a visa for destination! But they handle transit visas themselves! Don't worry about it. The travel agencies in Tehran would handle it perfectly.

Elham! Oh thank you for your response. My fiance he already bought his ticket from an agency in his city. They mentioned nothing about a transit visa. He himself contacted the Italian Embassy and the airline and they both told him that its only for formality but not necessity. Not one hell of an answer in my opinion but it seems like a "no" in my book. I am leaving it up to him if he wants to get one.

Actually at the airport of the country where you are transiting, you do not pass any immigration gate to have your transit visas checked! They just lead you to the transit saloon after your arrival. Ask him to double check the issue with the agency to make sure.
