Capuano to unions: You have to 'get a little bloody''

BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - Throngs of union supporters shut down Beacon Street in front of the Massachusetts Statehouse on Tuesday to show solidarity with public employees in Wisconsin.

The protest grew tense at times as both sides shouted at each other.

U.S. Rep. Michael Capuano rallied the crowd, calling the battle to save collective bargaining rights "a fight for the middle class."

"They're not going to back down and we're not going to back down," said Capuano, a Democrat.

During the event, Capuano also said "Every once and awhile you need to get out on the streets and get a little bloody when necessary."

A comment that many feel has crossed the line, especially in the wake of January's shooting in Tucson where Rep. Gabrielle Giffords survived an assassination attempt, six were killed, and 12 others were injured.

Matt Murphy from the State House News Service joined us at 10 to talk about the congressman's comments.

The Mass. GOP issued the following statement:

"Congressman Mike Capuano must have lost the memo from President Obama and Democratic leaders who were demanding more civility in our political discourse and a toning down of incendiary rhetoric after the massacre in Tucson on January 8. Yesterday, at a rally on Beacon Hill, Capuano couldn't resist the urge to stir up a crowd of union members with a call for blood in the pursuit and protection of their political agenda."

Congressman Capuano issued the following statement:

“I strongly believe in standing up for worker rights and my passion for preserving those rights may have gotten the best of me yesterday in an unscripted speech. I wish I had used different language to express my passion and I regret my choice of words”.

So you support RWN's who advocate live firing on working class citizens engaged in protests and don't apologize for misspeaking? Support Governor Walker in considering a plot to plant agitators in the protest crowds, again not later apologetic nor even embarrassed when caught?

Seems your outrage is quite selective. You do understand there needs to be a balance of power between labor and employers right? The history is grim when bosses have total control.
