visa validity dates/medical exam validity dates

:help: Hello everyone. I have a question about the dates that a medical exam is valid for and the dates the issued visa are valid for. I processed all the paperwork for my fiancee and her daughter to come to the US from moscow. The whole process only took 3 months. They received their Visas issued on May 10, 2006. The validity dates are May 10,2006 to Sept 8, 2006, only 122 days. The Visas are supposed to be valid for a period of 180 days. I called the US Embassy in Moscow. They told me that the medical exam could be valid for a period of 6 months or for 1 year. If only valid for 6 months the Visa validity date would be issued up to the last day the medical exam was valid for. She went for the exam on Mar 28, 2006, so the Embassy is telling me that the Visa is only valid to Sept 8, 2006..which is 180 days from the date of the Med exam and not valid for 180 days from the date the Visa was issued. I did extensive research and no place can I find any info that says the Visa is valid directly corresponding to the medical exam dates. I did read on the Moscow US Embassy site that the exam is most often valid for 1 year or possibly 6 months if there are and medical conditions involved. I assumed the validity dates for the exam were to be used in reference to going to the visa interview. Has anyone run into this problem.

Thanks for the help

Coop,

K1 and K2 visas are supposed to have a 6-month period of validity. If your fiancee and her daughter cannot travel to the US before the expiration date on the visas, then someone may need to talk with the consular officer who handled the visa applications to be sure what the reason for the shortened period is and what can be done in those circumstances to re-issue the visas. Perhaps a new medical exam if the unusually short visa validity is in fact based on some limitation of the original exam.

A consultation with a US immigration attorney practicing in Moscow, or one in the USA who has handled cases in Moscow, might be helpful to understand what is going on.
