Our case was sent to NVC. After more than a year, the "further processing" steps started in October. At that time, the correspondence we received said that it was expected that the visa could be issued within six months (even though the Priority Date was 01JUN07 (at that moment 01JAN06 was being processed). In January, the "current" priority date got moved back to 01JAN05.

After the I-130 was processed by the National Visa Center, fees paid, and the items requested by the checklist were sent in, an attempt to access the case online (at https://ceac.state.gov/CTRAC/Invoice/signon.aspx) produced the following message (in red).

Does this mean that the file is going to the embassy? Or, as we were (perhaps incorrectly) told by the NVC call center is it going to "sit" until the priority date becomes ripe?

It's going to sit until the priority date becomes current.

No, they are saying the visa priority date in Jan 2005- which it is for unmarried children of USCs as of March this year.
