LOL.. Ive owed 2 painting businesses, hired as a Foreman in most jobs in Commercial Work. But there is no work in Painting. Yes, I worked for Fred Meyers Home Improvement Center Years ago during the Winter months and when the Union called I ran.

I have a friend that works in the paint dep Home Depot makes $16hr not the best money but may work in your case i.e. Income requirements. Have you looked in to a job at one of the big box stores, you have the knowledge.

$16.00 an hour at Home Depot ? I heard they don't to hire full-time so they don't have to pay Heath Insurance like Walmart. I'll look into it

I don’t know about only ‘hire part time’ but even if you get 25 hr a week and got a part time job at the local gas and go to make it work, you gotta do what it takes.

I am going to move this one to the regional forum due to Manila's handling of I-134 and that the I-134 is a consulate topic, not a petition filing topic.

Looks like a lot of good advice..

Dan, I seen my Father last night after his open heart surgery. Guess what. He is a Trucker. Owned his business with a 8 car Hauler for years. Price of Fuel went up and transports cost went down. He spent the last 3 years on the road working for Snieder (The Orange Fleet) Had a few mishaps with a trucker but that is all ok Now.

Snieder has full Medical but my Father is a Vet and the VA takes care of that. I in the past traveled with my Father on trips. I only wanted your advice. Not as my dad would say "PoppyCock". I still want you advice.

Income: 2007.. Approx. $ 26,000.00 . Work, Unemployement, workmans Compensation

2008.. Approx. $ 19,225.00 . Work

2009.. Approx. $ 25,500.00 Work

2010.. Unemployment. 12,500.00 WorkmensComp $9,500.00, Cashed out 401-K $5000.00

Current Income: Unemployment. $360.00 per week USD.

I'm a Union Painter and my rate of pay is about $ 20.00 per hour but I know that don't matter. Employment benefits will end just as Spring arrive here and if there is No work at the Union I will take a lower paying job to meet Currant Income Requirements. But,

I fear that is too late. Mav will have her interview about Spring when my work starts to open. I have a letter from the Union on letterhead stating my wage but Its just a piece of paper to me. Means nothing really.

There is No Savings really, My average Bank balance is about $800.00 for the past year.

Please Kill me Now and Offer some some advice and don't hold back.

I'm getting to Old to Paint Bridges and thats why Workmans Compensation Claim are made. But I'm released from any injuries 100%

I stay i contact with the Union every week for work, but there is none.

Well, I just spilled my guts. Tell me. I'am a man. I can take it.

Thanks Tim

To all the guys who are trying to figure out a way to make enough money to qualify through the I-134 and the 125% poverty guidelines in todays' economy. The most stable industry that does not require any advanced skills or training is the TRUCKING INDUSTRY. The bigger companies will send you to school and you will reimburse them over time. If you are worried right now that you might not qualify and need a good paying job right now I hope you are reading this. Starting pay will be around 45K. Training takes 3 weeks followed by around 6 weeks of OJT. This is a slam dunk for those who are desperate and don't have any other skills to obtain other gainful employment. This goes for MEN and WOMEN. My fiance wants to get behind the wheel. Not bad starting out at 45K right out of the gate. I sent her the Federal CDL Manual two months ago and she already has a good command of the material. Just an idea though. Not for everybody as I have already learned through this thread.

Been there and done that and agree 100%. Kudos for throwing OTR driving out there as a quick and fairly easy way to make a decent paycheck. Maybe it will help someone else out.

Yep, I know one from PI who's hubby is driving for CFI, now she is her and out riding with him. Now that is cool.

Anyway, as you indicated may be able to get simple work and make up the difference.

Manilla can be tough on I-134, seems to be a ####### shoot if they will accept a co sponsor of not.

Thanks for the responces. I was upset over this and started the Topic. I rarely talk to my Attourney but contacted her on this matter.

Her Response was: First of all; You meet the income requirements for the past 3 years and 2011 off to a bad start but, your unemployment still meets the requirements.

She agreed with the timelime for the NOA2 which is 2 to 3 months and stated: It will be Approved.

She said Just be working when She goes to her interview. ( preferably painting at Union or Non-Union which is $15.00 to $20.00 per hour.)

As I said: I knew Mav would see this post. She did and now she's upset. OMG! But, I never lie to her and our VJ Account is Joint.

Thank you, Tim/Mav

After reading all the posts some things to consider are:

1. Barely making it is still making it.

2. The 125% of poverty is taken off of gross pay not net pay.

3. A job does not have to be a permanent job, unless there is a contract for a certain amount of time. Your union wages may be why some lower paying employers are not hiring you. There is a good chance you will go back to the higher paying job when it comes available and thus gives the employer doubt you will remain for a long time. You must overcome this doubt when interviewed or talking to the potential employer. Have you tried leaving the income section blank on the application?

4. Do you have any equity in a house or life insurance?

5. Have you planned for the upcoming costs such as Adjustment of Status? After flying your SO to the US and the wedding other USCIS costs seem to come unplanned by many people.

Thanks 333. It is all so overwhelming at times. My house isn't much, just a mobile home but its paid for. Everything I have is paid for really. I don't feel I'll have a problem getting a job in Spring about the time the NOA2 is recieved. We have the Medical for Saint Lukes saved. I have Half the Flight ticket saved. And the AOS is Immaginary Money but will come when I get back to work. Thanks for your reply. Tim

I'm getting ready to head back after a month of job searching here in the States. We'll live good on our investment we started last month for sure!

I drove OTR for Schneider ('till I got injured/workers comp) and it could be a good way for someone to earn decent money. My friend's husband just started driving for Swift and he likes it ok, but many of their drivers are sitting and waiting for freight, which could be why I didn't bother applying. My only concern of being a fiance to a K-1 beneficiary is how do you manage all of the 'little things' that must be done on the way (sending money, paperwork) and what not. I do, however, think driving truck was one of the best jobs I've ever had, and if I hadn't been injured I might still be driving for them.
