Jon and I were wondering how much money you could send to the UK without being penalized for it. In other words how much can he send??? We know that when we go abroad for holidays and such you can take with you a maximum of $10,000 but this is different and we were wondering if the amount was the same etc. Any useful links would be helpful.

There is no limit on traveling with cash, its just that anything over $10,000 must be declared with customs and immingrations when entering the US, for which a CUrrency Transaction Report will be filed with the US government. I'm not sure if there are the same reporting requirements when entering the UK with cash. As for a wire transfer of funds, there is no limitation as to how much can be sent, so long as you have sufficient funds in you account to cover the transfer. Just be prepared to provide lots of information to your bank when you initiate the wire. They will want to know the full name and address of the recieiving party, as well as the name and address of the bank, the routing number of the bank as well as the SWIFT number (if unsure of any this info, call the bank's customer service line - they should all have this).
