So I just tried to download the forms ready to fill in and print, and guess what?

A couple of them (including the I-130) just give me a message telling me that I need to download the latest version of the document viewer from Adobe.

This is a problem, as I use Linux, and you can't get Adobe Reader for Linux :(

I use an open-source reader for all pdf's, and have NEVER encountered a problem before. Why on Earth would they make the forms only compatible with one of many readers out there?

The idea was to fill out the forms and email them to my wife's address, so she can print them at work (we have no printer), but now it looks like she'll have to download them at work, print them and then we'll have to fill them in the old fashioned way with a pen.

We really wanted to fill them in on the computer for a more 'professional' look, but I guess we don't have a choice :(

You can get Adobe Reader for Linux (currently at version 9.4.1),

Go to the Adobe website and get it. It's available in several formats (.rpm, bin, .deb, or .tar.bz2)

Try to get the forms from the USCIS website, not Visajourney. It happens to me too at work. I already have the latest Acrobat installed and it still tells me to get the latest version. But the USCIS website forms work just fine!

Good luck

I would try a different browser, if you have one. I get an error message even though I do have the latest adobe, so it seems like a lame coding bug on their part. If you can get some forms, then adobe's not the problem.

If that doesn't work, pen is fine. They won't dislike you and deny you because you used pen and ink! lol

Good luck.

I hear ya, opening them on a Mac also requires Adobe Reader, the mac's built-in viewer wont display them.

This should work for you.

The ethernet port on my macbook broke, which is why I'm using my Linux machine at the moment. Good to know that it's not just Linux that has the problem.

You would have thought they'd take more care over compatibility, not everyone uses Windows!

I use windows too.

One thing I do like about Adobe Reader on Windows is it plugs into IE and Firefox so no need to download the PDF most open within the browser. On the mac it is required to download and then open the PDF outside the browser.

Hi there. One idea that might work is if your wife fills them out for you at work using your information, then she can print it out and you can sign it when she gets it to you. If she doesn't know your information you can write down the answers in pen on a plain sheet of paper, or if she does it on her lunch break she can just call you and you can give her the info as she fills it out? If it's a matter of needing certain documents etc just be sure to send them with her. It's just a though. Good luck with everything :)
