Hi VJ friends!

I come to you again for help. EVerything has been great for me since I got here a month ago. This friday will be our wedding thru the city hall YAY! (L):D:luv:

We have decided I will take his name after we get married however we have been told by a couple of people that might complicate our adjustment status process.

Do you think we should just wait until we are thru with the whole process or is it best to do it right away??

Thank you all for your help!

I don't know how people think it complicates things, it doesn't complicate any part of the process. Simply file AOS docs with the married name on them.

If you choose to get your AOS in your maiden name and change it later you will need to pay $455 for a new card... not exactly cheap or convenient.

Congratulations! As you have moved past the K-1 stage and are entering the next phase of your immigration journey, I have moved your thread from the K-1 forum to the AOS from Family Based Visas forum as this is what you will be dealing with now and you should find the posters here best able to answer your questions. :)

Moderator hat off - it is best to start the way you intend to continue. Use the name you wish to use to file for the AOS as it is much more complicated to change it later on. There are always going to be some inconveniences when you change a name even without the immigration process involved, but it will be easier in the long run for you to start using your married name from the beginning, especially on the immigration paperwork. The complications won't be with USCIS - they will be with getting a SSN if you haven't done so already or changing the name on the SSN to your married name, things like that. Nothing insurmountable. If you wished to change your name later, you would have to get a new green card which would cost money and then change all of your identification.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Who told you it would be difficult. My gosh you take his name at marriage and then use it for everything. As Vanessa said it will cost you to have to change it later for GC and if it is his name you want to use then all your forms and documents will be in your married name SSN Drivers license the lot.

Divorced !st November 2012.

Married only 2 years 1 month

Should not be a problem taking the name.
