AP in chennai for CR1/IR

My husband was put in AP after he had his interview on Feb 14,2011 at chennai.

He was told on face that he was approved for visa and they kept his passport.

Got an email from chennia IVU, that his case is pending administrative processing and sent him a long list of questionnaire regarding his academic background, research publications etc. He is an MS degree holder in chemical engineering from South Korea.

Upon further enquiry, the consulate notified us that they are awaiting further clearance from Dept of State and it would take a minimum of 45 days.

Anybody gone through such experience? How long will it take to finish AP for immigrant visa in Chennai?

any advice would be appreciated.

Looks like its my own thread...:whistle:

Anyone out there who had their CR1 interview and passport withheld for AP in 2011?

Called Dept of state twice during past 2 weeks, they wont give any convincing answer.

America is a free country and uphold its freedom of infomation to public. Dont we belong to that category to atleast know why our spouses are put in AP?

I know all these processes are to ensure the country security, why do they do this after the interview?

Why didnt they do this at USCIS or NVC level? :bonk:

Waiting is a pain... I dont know how to kill time, January 11, 2011 was our second wedding anniversary. :crying:

Oh Lord please help !!!

Another question...

I read in some forums that if the CO hold your passport, that's a good sign.

But I have seen many people from other countries where their passports were held for longer periods.

Why do they hold passports if they know it is going to take a while. Is it because they dont want the person to travel abroad while AP is in process?

Please insights would be appreciated.

From everything I've been told/researched, when they hold your passport it's good because when they mail it back or have you come pick it up, it will have the visa in it. They hold it so they can just simply affix the visa without having to wait for you to come back with it. Speeds up the process a bit.

I dont understand, why they dont even tell us the cause for AP...

Looks like it has been a routine matter irrespective of any visa category.

Summer 2007: Hubby and I met.

January 2008: Engaged.

May 22,2008: Hubby and I got married!

August 2008: I-130 filed.

January 2010: Our son was born.

May 2010: Interview at US Embassy in Barbados. Visa Denied! Eligible for I-601 waiver. Couldn't get a joint sponsor so we had to wait until 2011 when my income tax return documents would reflect my full income.

Feb22,2011: Embassy Received Tax Docs and New AOS!

Feb28,2011: I-601Waiver App Package sent to USCIS Santo Domingo via airmail.

Mar28,2011: USCIS Santo Domingo received Waiver Package.

Jun13,2011: Waiver Approved!

June24,2011:Embassy requested that medical police cert and other docs be updated and sent to schedule final interview for visa! *crosses fingers*

FINAL INTERVIEW SET FOR SEPT. 1ST @ 7:30AM
