I was reading in FAQ re: K-1 Visa and I am somewhat confused regarding bring my car across. Do I need a letter from i.e Crysler Canada to say my car meets US Emission Standards? OR>.. if I had my car aircared...would that be acceptable? IF anyone knows, I would very much appreciate your advice or any information that could help me. ALSO: My fiance came up last weekend (Canada) to visit, and on his return he asked at the U.S. Border about bringing my household goods. The Border Guard informed him that I can only bring what is in my vehicle....and yet also, in FAQ here, it said you CAN bring more than what would fit in your vehicle. However, does it have to be brought through with a moving company, or can we rent a UHaul to follow my car when I am entering the U.S. on my K-1 Visa?? ANY ADVICE HERE would be very much appreciated, as our Interview is now booked for Feb. 28, 2011..

You need a complaince letter from chryler: Phone# (scroll down) http://www.nhtsa.gov/cars/rules/import/VIG_Canada01192007.htm

You have up to 10 yrs to move ur goods down! Soem use a U-haul truck--soem have used U-pack, some have used a major moving company, and soem have mailed it

LOTS of info here regarding MOVING to the USA: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/191858-canada-immigration-guide/

Best of luck

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I'm not sure about the car, as my fiance brought his truck up to move me down, but when we crossed we had a Uhaul trailer attached and a bed strapped on the roof of our truck! They didn't even take a look at what we had, (though I'm not saying they won't! There's always the chance!) but it definitely didn't al fit in our vehicle and we had no problems! Make sure you don't leave without your I-94! Happy crossing!

The compliance letter is about both emissions and safety standards, so you need that (most will say that the daylight running lights are wrong, I think something about the brightness, not that it really matters, most places dont make you fix them) from the phone number Flames linked you to. For moving, as Flames said, you have 10 years to bring anything thats yours into the country. I shipped mine with Upack, but a lot of others just used a Uhaul. Its personal belongings so you are allowed to import them with you.
