Well I called again today and heard the following.

Yes you are outside of the five month time line mentioned on the website but this is just an average.

We (VSC) are currently processing August 21 Petitions and therefore you are not out of what we consider the actual time line for processing.

You need to call be after 24 more days and if your case has not processed by that time we can initiate a service request.

which they will answer in 30 more days and tell you they will have something for you in two weeks.

Total: 7 1/2 months

Way to go, Vermont Disservice Center.

Another abject failure to add to their long line of one failure after another.

I just called and has usual i asked for a service request and has usual the guy was all ready to give me one when he said oh we have technical difficulties, this is exactly what happened 2 weeks ago when i called. Is there in someway a thing that pops up when they type your receipt number that says do not issue them a service request number just make up a lame excuse and hang up ????

Yes, there is a computer virus called the "i-am-a-boldfaced-liar" virus. This virus hits Disservice Center computers quite a lot.

This sounds very strange. We got a service request accepted 1 day after our 5month mark.

Make sure you get the names of both the tier 1 and tier people that you deal with, together with the time that you call. After that, go to your congressperson, give them that information, and ask them to inquire on your behalf. If they don't come back with anything definative then there is something amiss.

Same thing happened to me. About halfway through the process of submitting a service request, he comes out with that gem. Says "the computer has determined blah blah blah". Worthless bunch.

They only update, the last petition processed date, in the middle of every month.

I called them about 3 weeks ago. They first told me to call if I hadn't heard anything by Dec 31st. I did that and they they told me "oh we were wrong, you should call Jan 31st, sorry". So I called Feb 1st (which is +5 months wait time) and thats when I heard that tripe. I'm gonna hold off until mid march to call again.

If I was that bad at my job, I would be out of a job.

@claytlin: just to add to the above (bahuffma is my fiance), they have given us 10th march as the deadline of when we can request to expedite the case. But I suspect their computers will come down with a virus when we try to put in the service request.
