I was told by my doctor that you can't do a titre test for measles or mumps just for Ruebella and Chicken pox... and seeing as how Ruebella vacine is always given together with the measles and the mumps, if you come out positive for ruebella, you most likely are vacanated for the other 2....

it seems someone has the wrong info....

Your doctor is wrong...or perhaps you misunderstood.

A titre is just measuring the level of antibodies (or drugs) in your blood; it can theoretically be done for anything. When I was practicing I requested measles titres regularly, and mumps titres less so for my patients. No doctor would risk stating you are immune to measles and mumps because you are immune to rubella...you could have picked up the wild virus, which would make your immune to rubella, but not to the measles and mumps, so they could only presume you had immunity if you said you had the MMR but no records. I doubt the US gov will be happy with that...but I may be wrong.

It is also my understanding that for non immigrant visas such as the K1 immunizations do not need to be done, but must be done prior to AOS. I hope there is no problem with this as I am not keen to have duplicate immunizations done on my kids or myself and we have lived in several different countries and provinces and it is taking me some time to get all the documentation verified that I currently have in storage.

you are not required by USCIS law to have vaccinations done for a K visa, but they do need to be done by time of AOS.

HOWEVER, for Canadians who have already been vaccinated, there is no need to have vaccinations done again, either in Canada or the US. Just have titres done, and that will suffice for the medical purposes. If you have the titres done in Canada, they're free. If you have them done in the US, you'll probably pay thru the nose.

I honestly don't know why anyone would go get vaccinated again, when titres are so much easier and safer.

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!

I just got my blood drawn for the titre test (testing for Rubella, Hepatitis B and Chicken pox). I live in Manitoba and had to pay the lab $42. My doctor says it will cost me $50 to get the other vaccinations again since I don't have my immunization records, but you guys are saying it's free... is this only true for Ontario?

I could be wrong but I believe it is "free for an an adult not previously vaccinated." I think if you get technical your doctor is looking at it as though have been vaccinated before.

I'm curious why you had blood drawn to check for Rubella, Hep B and Chicken pox but not Measles and Mumps?

i told her my situation regarding needing an immunization record and asked if a blood test could be done to determine what i am already immunized against. she wrote down those 3 titre tests on the lab request form, so i thought that those were the only ones you could test for ... or maybe she only wrote down rubella because she assumes that if i have that, then i'd have the measles and mumps vaccines too because they all come together in the MMR shot. if the latter is the case, would i have to have her write and sign a statement saying so? would this hold during the medical interview?

i get the tests results in 2 weeks.

I'm not sure if her writing that she thinks you are immune based on being immune to Rubella and the fact that the three come in one shot would fly. Heck don't ask me. I was in a similar situation. My doctor said all she could write was that she "pressumed" I was immune based on the Rubella showing I was.

Two weeks is another time frame for results. I have been told everything from 5-7 days for Rubella and mumps, then up to twenty five days for Measles. I am not required to show Hep B because of my age (34) and I will give them the confirmation from myself that I have had chicken pox.

Sounds like we all get different information from our doctors and the panel physicians and labs and then we all have our own experiences here.

Best of luck.

i just called the lab to ask if they did titres for mumps and measles and they said yes but that i have to go and get my doctor to add "mumps and measles" on the lab request form if i wanted tests for those too. i am going over there before they do the tests to get that added in to the list right away so i don't have to pay another $42 and get poked and prodded again. luckily, the lab is only two doors down from my dr's office.

oh, and i might as well just show them the vaccination list to see if they can do titres for anything else and ask that to be added on.

i'll let you know their ETA for the mumps and measles tests when i get back.

so they gave me an ETA of two weeks for the measles and mumps tests too.

so yeah, David and Karen, it does seem like everyone will experience something different when it comes to this part of the process.

goodluck to you all!

If you are between 18 and 64 the only vaccanations you need are the MMR(mumps, measles, ruebella), Chicken Pox and Tetanus....

and like I said I just had the titre for rubella and chicken pox and showed the results when I went for my medical and they were fine with them

I haven't received packet 3 yet, but does it state this on there? If that is not the case, where does it state this? If that is the case, then that's great... I will only need 1 or 2 out of 3 needles poked into me!
