Indeed. Not to mention its not clear how we are winning, or indeed what we are winning - because its equally unclear what the goal of this "war on terror" is. With Iraq not having any direct link to 9/11 and US national security threats - people already suspect that this is simply a new justification for plain, old fashioned imperialist expansion.

9/11 just gave the president carte blanche to knock over all the "ant-hills" he doesn't like, regardless of whether or not they are involved in any actual terrorism.

You weren't briefed? The object of the 'war on terror' is to rid the world of all terrorists - kill them all before they can breed anymore. Then we can go back to occupying countries for their natural resources or paying off governments in name of American democracy. King George III would be so proud.

From a linguistic point of view the concept of a "war on terror" is completely ludicrous, makes me cringe everytime I hear it. War on terrorism - sure, but war on terror? How do you declare war on a vague emotion?

I mean the emperor Caligula supposedly declared war on the sea....
