Yes, I know. Neither my fiance nor I have a myspace account anymore

I picked "traveling abroad for pleasure" but "through friends" would have been more accurate if it had been there.

I went to visit a friend whom I had met 2 years earlier when she had been in a program I coordinate at work. The day I arrived in her country, she was away, so I had a long conversation about American healthcare reform with her cousin (it must have been absolutely scintillating). We kept talking constantly for the rest of my visit, and a few days before I left I told him how I felt (because I knew he would never make a move himself, out of respect since I was his cousin's friend) and it turned out (luckily) that he had feelings for me, too. We agreed to keep in touch and see where things went. One year, two visits, and many emails & hours on the phone later, we got engaged and decided to try for a K-1, and the rest will someday be history!

Just wanted to say you guys look cute together!

I was living in Germany at the time - in Bavaria - and he was traveling with friends. It was his first time in Europe, they had decided to spend some time in the Munich area. We met at a Biergarten at the Andechs Monastery on top of a mountain - he asked me for a light in very poor German. I laughed, replied in English and we started talking. We hiked back down together, my friend and I took the boat across the lake and I promised my new American friends I'd find them over Facebook so we could get together at the Englischergarten in Munich. I spent hours looking online for them - I finally did. Good thing I'm a good detective...

So we saw each other another 3 trips on his week long visit to Germany. Once in Munich and twice in the village where I was living.

I moved back to Canada a month later and within two week I was visiting him in the USA. The rest is history.

About ten years ago I was studying at the local university here in Västerås, Sweden. A friend of mine who I was studying with, he's a fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins (NHL hockey team). I'm a fan of the Montreal Canadiens, but despite us rooting for different teams, that was obviously an interest we had in common, so we talked hockey a lot.

Anywho... He had found this message board that he really liked, it was the discussion forum on the Penguins' official website. He said he thought I should sign up but I wasn't interested; I was a fan of a different team, why would I be interested in the bleeping Pens? But he kept nagging me and I finally broke down and signed up.

What I found was that he'd been right, that there were a lot of interesting discussions going on and a bunch of cool, interesting people to interact with. After a while I found that there were certain people I liked more than others. One of those people was my now wife Melissa.

OK fast forward a couple years and a bunch of us left the Penguins board as the quality took a massive nosedive. A guy started his own board and some of us were invited to join this new board. My friend from the U, Melissa and myself were among these people who "jumped ship".

I think it was probably in the spring of 2008 when Melissa added me as a friend on Facebook. In the fall/winter of 2008 we started chatting a lot. One thing about the original Penguins board that I thought was very cool was posters organized these pickup games for other posters from the board, and I was always very envious that all these cool people got to interact and meet in real life. Anyway. At the start of the NHL season the Pittsburgh Penguins were scheduled to play their season opener in Stockholm, Sweden. Melissa talked about possibly going there to watch the game. I said that if she was coming over and needed a place to stay, Västerås is only about an hour away from Stockholm, so she could crash on my couch. And one of my brothers had moved to Stockholm the previous year so if all else failed, maybe I could talk to him about borrowing his apartment or something. It was an innocent proposition - honestly. Never in a million years did I think it would be the start of of a real relationship.

Unfortunately Melissa could not make the trip t Sweden, but we continued chatting, and things sort of progressed from there, so to speak. Around Easter 2009 was when I realized I had feelings for this woman, who lived halfway across the world, six time zones away. One thing lead to another and Melissa flew to Sweden in October of 2009 to visit me for two weeks. I remember how nervous she was about the flight as it was the first time she'd ever been on an airplane.

The cool thing was that when we finally met in person, things felt very relaxed. I had been nervous as Hell, but when we met, everything felt so cool. Unfortunately our first time together wasn't all roses, as I had been sick a lot that fall and while she was here I even went to the hospital because I had a real bad case of the flu. (Turned out later I actually had a pneumonia and even bronchitis!) But still, it was the best two weeks of my life.

I visited America and Pittsburgh for the first time in July 2010, she came back to see me here in Sweden around midsummer 2011 and we got married. And, here I am. That's my story. :)

Currently.... they have issued Ice the incorrect GC and we have tried 4 times to fix it. First time they had us send it to the incorrect address. Second time they said we used an expired form, which was the form they gave us. Third time was "oh sorry we lost the last page, can you send it again?." Fourth time is the gov is shut down. Will this ever be corrected in time for Ice to get the permanent GC? Stay tuned to find out. T_T

Fun stories. :)

My husband and I literally bumped into each other at a money exchange line at an airport in another country when we were on our way back to our respective countries. We both dropped our magazines in the bump and helped each other pick up our magazines. We had both bought the same magazines to read on on our flights back home (we had same interest in flying and sailing). We thought this was funny and as we both had free time to wait for our flights we decided to have lunch, talked a lot about our similar interests and waited together for our flights. We swapped email addresses and it went from there. Exchanged emails when we got back to our home countries then phone calls and here we are now married for more than 12 years.
