How Did You Meet Your Fiance(e)/Spouse??

My fiance and I met in New York when she was here visiting her friend. I lived in Seoul for three years while I studied my MS and worked. She was working not even a 1/3 mile from the university I attended. We never met. I got a job in New York working for the Korean Consulate General after graduation and moved here (originally from Arkansas). After a few months I started doing an e-mail language exchange with a girl in New York, but neither of us had much time or interest to meet. I speak Korean and was focusing on improving my business Korean writing. So I would send her Korean reports and she would correct them. I'd help her with her college papers and such. Anyway, her friend- my future fiance- came to visit and we all decided to meet together.

After meeting her, I couldn't get enough. I didn't want to say goodbye. We had a great few weeks, but she had a very (6 years) long term boyfriend in Korea. She eventually had to go back. We started to talk nearly daily for a number of hours via Korean phone apps. I went over there after a few months to visit for 10 days. A while after that she finally broke up with her boyfriend at the time. We started "dating" and continued to talk daily for hours. We missed each other like crazy, but we didn't believe we were ready to get married. I found out about this K1 visa and thought it would give us the time we need to prepare for the future together, and it's been perfect.

I went back and forth to Korea a number of times over the past year. She was in an employment contract which didn't allow her to take vacations for the first year. She quit her job the last day of February and came here in March to meet my family and things.

Visa was approved last week.

I'll go over there in about 3 weeks and then we'll come back to NY together.

Long story, but it's a beautiful one I think

I was coaching my fiancee's son when I lived in Mongolia and ran an NGO. I had to visit her house for her to sign a permission slip. She was super-hospitable, and gave me tea and dinner, and so I reciprocated, and things just grew from there.

He came to me asking for directions to a restaurant (that I was all too familiar with) that brewed their own beer. This is rare in Manila because everyone mostly just drinks San Miguel. We chatted some more about places he had to see in Manila and he asked if I would share more over a few drinks. We ended up going to the restaurant together and having a good time. We met up again at the same restaurant a week after and then dinner the wednesday following that. That wednesday was our first official date. We had dinner at a Greek restaurant and went dancing at a ska bar called the Penguin Club. We got drunk silly and ended up sobering up at a Chinese restaurant at 3 in the morning with hot and sour soup.

We met online, I was looking for penpals and I found her profile really interesting and funny so I decided to message her. I didn't see her as a romantic prospect because of the distance. After a few weeks of exchanging daily long messages I asked her for her MSN address, she provided it and we soon fell for each other. We made a big (and great) decision to go with our hearts not our heads that I'd fly out to the US to spend a week on vacation with her, it went better than we could have ever expected and after a few more trips we are now husband and wife!

Language learning site (interpals.com, used it to help with Korean language first and it was amazing!). I decided to try and secure some online help and get ahead of the game before I registered for an Arabic class in university.

Neither of us had any 'interest' in the other for a while, or thought we would ever meet in person. Pulled together a visit in less than a month and right before Egypt's situation went down the tubes, too.

I had just finished my Peace Corps service in Swaziland a month before and had just set off on a six-month tour of Africa and Europe. I met him in Marrakech where he was working as a tour guide. I declined a tour but accepted his offer to buy me avocado juice. There, I talked excessively about how much I loved Moroccan food (a welcome change after bland Southern African food) and we set up a date for him to teach me to cook tangine. We spent the next weekend in Essaouira and had a lovely time, but I headed off for Europe with the idea that we would just "stay friends."

Well, he came to Europe to meet me so we could travel together. We had such a good time that I decided to go back to Morocco the next month so I could see his hometown and meet his family. And that went so well that we decided to attempt a long-distance relationship when I went back to the US. One year and one long visit from him in the US later we decided we wanted to get married and have been working on getting our financial ducks in a row (ugh) since then.
