I am neither a loyal liberal nor a loyal conservative, and I do live in Wisconsin. In this case, I'm siding with Walker though. The teachers, for example, are being quite unreasonable. Why do they deserve significantly better benefits that anyone in the private sector? They don't and especially not better taxpayer-funded benefits. If they really cared about the kids as much as they say they do, they would get back into the classroom and do their jobs. Watching the protests and seeing some of the signs these people are carrying is shameful indeed. What a dark day this is in Wisconsin history.

I think both sides need to be clear about what they want to accomplish. I think though that the budgetary concessions have been offered by the union, save for the part about having their bargaining rights taken away. I may be mistaken though.

That leaves a common denominator. I am sure the teachers are anxious to getting back into the classroom.

I know union reps have said this, but I find it very hard to believe. This sounds more like an attempt at union executives to keep their jobs secure.

Or call out the governor to see if its all about the budget or something more sinister. Wouldn't it be awesome if he said great, lets move on? Problem (from the budget perspective) solved, and they get to keep their jobs.

If the unions will agree to all of the financial-related provisions proposed by Walker without any strings attached, then yes, I agree.

I'd like that too. Kids in Wisconsin need their in-school educators.

We need less paranoid political schizophrenia in our society.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of ignorant people on both sides. One side has people who can't stop babbling nonsense about socialism. The other side has some people who aren't willing to give anything in the name of getting the financial affairs of Wisconsin in order. Maybe if those people from both sides would just shut up, we could get somewhere here.
