I actually feel most confident in jeans because it feels like 'me'. Dressing up makes me feel uncomfortable.

In spite of my 'confident' jeans look, however, I was very nervous and emotional when I had my interview and I actually cried through the whole 5 minutes. The nice woman behind the counter smiled and said, not to worry, a lot of people cry.

It really isn't anything like a job interview - they're not judging you on your dress, your intelligence, social skills, confidence or anything like that. You've already presented all the documentation and filled in the forms. They just want to see the originals, take a few things from you, have you sign a few things, swear to tell the truth (sobbing optional) and answer a couple of questions.

So just wear what makes you feel most comfortable and confident - you may be in for a long wait outside the Embassy (so I wouldn't wear heels!) and another long wait inside so bear that in mind when choosing.

{Maybe crying during an interview is a good thing. It will let the interviewer (if they are understanding enough to the pains of such a process) know your sincerity in your wish to be with your hubby.}

On my interview I chose to wear a pair of ladies smart black trousers, pair of trainers, summer green top, gillet and accidently ...part of the sandwich I bought whilst waiting (No joke). Nobody was fussed though. But I gotta admit I personally felt out of place because near everybody was in business suits. Except people who I could clearly tell were americans they wore the jeans!

I think im gonna go smart casual with my jeans like many i always wear them. I just dont like dressing up it would make me feel more nervous I would if i needed to. Roll on the interview now Oh yeah and thanks for all your advice about the medical i had mine last week went well the London doctor lady as very nice I worried for nothing. I liked the fact you were comfortable enough to cry at the interview. You are right it doesn't matter what your wear. Just so long as you feel confident within yourself.

we obviously like this thread. I went smart casual and was possibly one of the best dressed there in the end. I would says jeans are just fine!! This is the American (not french or italien) embassy after all!!!

I can't even remember what I wore. Jeans and a T-shirt of some description. I await the first thread from anybody whose application was denied 'cause they didn't shave that morning.
