hi all! i am new here to the forum with a question. this may be the wrong place for it, but....

here goes...

my boyfriend lives in seattle, WA

i live in vancouver, BC

i have been visiting every other month for 3-5 days each time i go. i tell border i am seeing friends.

i want to marry him in the USA. i want to live in the USA. i want to work in the USA.

what is the easiest, fastest way to go about this?

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

You can do either k1 or cr1..

The k1 used to be the easier process to get to the US, but nowadays it takes pretty much the same time to process k1 and cr1.. in the end, the cr1 is cheaper because once you get to the US you already have your green card and can work asap as opposed to filing for AOS.

So if you want to marry first and then file, do cr1.

If you want to marry in the US and have a long engagement, do k1 :)

My Journey:

We met through a study-abroad program in Shanghai, China in August of 2009

We got engaged March of 2010

I received my K1 VISA in 6 months (June-December 2010)

We were married 04/02/2011
I received my conditional 2-year greencard (AOS) in 2.5 months with no interview (April-June 2011)

Our son was born 02/03/2013

I received my masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology 04/17/2013

I received my 10-year greencard (ROC) in 3 months with no interview (March-June 2013)

My husband returned from deployment 06/20/2013

My naturalization journey took 4 months (April-August 2014)

I became a US citizen on 08/01/2014

Received passport in 3 weeks (regular processing)

welcome to vj. the cr1 is cheaper and you can work you get social security card you get your permanent resident card, if you come on the k1 you need to aos a lot of forms. an 1,070 cost,
