This is the United States. We don't have 'workers.' You can move to N Korea, China, etc. if you want 'workers.'

We have employees. We have individuals who have the right to seek out a job and the right to either be good at it and keep it or suck at it and be fired. They don't have the right to suck at it and still get paid the same as the guy who works his ####### off every week.

Collective bargaining is weak. It's puny. It's pathetic. No REAL Man is a union member. Period.

Really ? You tell me when scab labor like from those scab rat states RE Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, etc... get near the training our guys get in the union. Iv'e seen some of the work done by rat scab Texans at the Cherry Pt. oil refinery in Washington state. I wouldn't let those scab rats build my dog house after I saw the slop work they did.

Cheap rat scab Texan labor isn't worth the cost to come after them and fix their mistakes.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Totally agree. Teachers should never strike. Once a teacher strikes they lose credibility to EVER claim they're in the job for the kids.

LOL ??? So maybe teachers should work for min. wage so that they "don't lose credibility". Teaching like anything else is a job, not only that but last time I checked teachers needed a degree to obtain their jobs. So tell me, is college free these days ?

Yeah, that 'cheap' labor that is the primary source for oil in the US. That 'cheap' labor that has the best highways in the United States. Yup... oh so cheap!

Most teachers are required to have a masters degree these days, at least at high school level

And many of those skirted by to get that degree.

Affirmative action has done wonders for the public education system for instance...

Our hands go through a five year apprenticeship and then test out in order to get their journeymans card. The only way you can buy a card through our hall is if you have proof for the hours you worked at other jobs...every hour gets verified. Not so with non union outfits.

Now I know for d@mn sure I wouldn't want to chance a shut down job on an oil refinery to Bill Joe Bob from Waco Texas when he can't prove that he has the skills to do journeymans fitter work. Ever see an oil refinery fire ? It's not a pretty site.

Texas City ring any bells ?

Again, from your link:

The Wisconsin Legislature is expected to vote today on Walker's proposal to fix the Wisconsin budget, which includes requiring state employees to contribute five percent of their pay to the state pension plan, and to pay for roughly 12 percent of their health care insurance.

This, however, is not what has prompted as many as 10,000 protesters to descend upon the Wisconsin State Capital in Madison each of the past two days. What has triggered the demonstrations is Walker's proposal to strip most of the state's public employee unions of their collective bargaining rights.

I haven't paid that much attention to this so forgive me if I am wrong here. The Gov of WI isn't taking away the unions bargaining rights, he is only trying to make WI a right to work state. It seems that there is some hysteria going on here. If the unions can't compete with those that don't want to be in unions then that is their fault.
