SSN question

Hey all,

My fiance went today to apply for a SSN at our local office here in NC and they couldnt give him one now bc he isnt in the system yet according to the I-94. His POE date was 2/2 and if i can add correctly its been 15 days. Most people on here recommend waiting 14 days. They claim, either he isnt in they system yet or his date of birth is wrong, which entail more paperwork and waiting. Now I want him to have the SSN before our March 11th wedding, luckily here in NC you dont need a SSN to get married. I am just afraid they wont accept our AOS forms if his SSN isnt on them. Any advice on what we should do?

SSN is not needed for AOS.

SSN is needed for many things, and some evidence for the AOS eg: be put on car insurance or bank account etc, but it is not required or needed for the AOS forms.

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

ROC was approved in 3 months and 2 days without interview.

If I have the time right, you said his POE is 2/2/2011. If so, it is has not been (15) “business” days as of yet. Wait at least (16) business days or so and try again. Highly recommend you have a SSN when you apply for your AOS. Any avenue you can show that further validates your case from a federal government standpoint is better.

go back, look up in SAVE database again, by both VISA NAME and A#. One of them is wrong, find out which, then get to CBP Secondary Inspection / Deferred Inspection Office, get it FIXED in Real Time.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

We will get the SSN soon enough I am just ready for things go actually go smoothly when he tries to apply for things. So far its been, "oh sorry, we cant find your information"....The only thing that went well was his interview. Guess we cant complain too much. thanks for the advice everyone!

Topic moved from AOS forum as issues related to SSN are discussed here

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Hey all,

Can't be both. If he is "not in the system" there would be no information about him when they try to verify his status. SSA suggests 10 calendar days, so if you waited 15 days, that's more than enough.

Little side note. Looks more and more like the government might be shutting down on March 4th, so no one might be getting anything from SSA for who knows how long after the March 4th. Plus with the cuts the Republicans supposedly want in the SSA budget, service might be pretty slow even if something is passed due to employees being furloughed.

Yea I said it was either he wasnt in the system OR he was his birthdate was incorrectly put in. Which requires him to have to go to our local USCIS office and file more paperwork. It has been actually 12 business days. Either way, plenty of time, id say. What is happening on March 4th???

USCIS local office can't fix this, at all -

The CBP 'secondary inspection' or 'deferred inspection' office can fix this, face to face, in real time.

IF indeed, it's a typo from the clerk that entered the data at the POE. It happens, the fix is to get into CBP office, face to face, get it fixed.
