I posted this in the Octobers 2010 filers area, but I thought the wider community could also benefit from our AOS interview experience at the Philadelphia office yesterday. I know I loved reading others stories.

The interview started very formally, and the officer was a little stand offish at first, but soon we were laughing together. Very nice and professional all round.

Order of interview as follows:

Sworn in - Very formal

Asked for ID's birth certificates and marriage certificate. - Very formal, still no introduction, smile or hello.

Filled in paper work for a couple of minutes.

Immigration officer then introduced himself, explained that he is going to ask us questions and would like us to answer seperately if the question is directed at either of us specifically. He was still formal at this point and had not yet smiled at us. He then asked our names, dates of birth, address type questions.

After this point it became much more comfortable in the room as he had started to smile and make small chit chat about travel to Philadelphia, how cold it was etc.

He then asked the following questions all the while making casual conversation and filling in paperwork.

How did you meet?

What concert was it?

You were both born in Australia?

Which of your parents are US citizens? (wife)

Who 'dragged' who over to the US?

What was your previous and current job? (for me)

What are you studying at university? (for wife)

About 10 of the i-485 yes/no questions while we all laughed at how crazy most of them are. (He did not ask me if I was ever a prostitute which I must admit would have been amuzing for me to actually hear that come out of someones mouth!)

What evidence do you have that you currently live together and are building a life for the future together?

Did not even look at our wedding photos which suprised me.

He explained that he will review our submission once again in the afternoon and make his decision then. He then asked if I understood conditional permanent residency etc. Then we were done. I would say 20 minutes in the room with him total.

Just got home, checked status online and card production ordered! We are over the moon! Thank you to everyone here and visa journey for being such a great resource!

Hi, I must say 'Congratulations', that sounds like it was a smooth run in relatively short time, compared to others.

I am filing in May (CR-1), my wife is a USC and I am Australian. I'd request some details on the 'so much evidence' that you mentioned. Can you share with us please? Titles or descriptions are OK. My wife finds the whole process overwhelming as she has 2 kids to look after while all this is going on. I am now running the show with the paperwork, and from Sydney.....

Regards,

Hillary and Kim
