Are the translated certificates such as birth certificate and police certificate only good for a certain amount of time or can you go ahead get these well in advance? The reason i am sking is because my fiancee has already gotten her birth certificate with translation and is about to get the police certificate and i am guessing with the pace things are moving her interview at GUZ will not be till August/September.

The Birth Certificate won't expire. The Single Certificate I was told is valid for 6 months and as LGC stated the police report should be good for a year. So basically you'll just want to make sure the Single Cert. doesn't expire before the interview.

Thanks fellas, i have another question, when i completed the k-1 packet i put my fiancee home address down but for the mailing address she wanted to use her work address so thats what i put, does anyone think this will cause any confusion?

I'm not sure on which forms and which questions you put down the two different addresses, but I'm pretty sure it won't matter too much. There's a good chance though that if they send her mail it may not go to the address you wanted them to send it to (work as opposed to home). Mine was probably more confusing than yours because I wrote on a supplemental page that if they send mail to my fiancee I would like them to send it to my address (I live in China - we were concerned about the reliability of her receiving mail at her address and tried to have it sent to my work address instead). They ignored that and sent the mail to her address, fortunately it got there. All that to say, I don't it will necessarily cause confusion or be any big problem but there's no guarantee where they'll actually send the correspondence to. What stage are you at? Waiting for the NOA2?

I remember contemplating the same thing you mentioned (changing address after getting NOA2). Just to let you know, the next communication that will come after the NOA2 is Packet 3. However, P3 can all be downloaded online. You'll be able to call to find out when the Consulate sent P3 and once it's sent out your fiancee can mail in P3 that she printed offline and filled out. When filling out the P3 she will send in an EMS (mail/post) form for the consulate to send her the P4, so when she sends that in she can write whatever address she wants to receive the P4 at. So, it may not be necessary to actually do the extra paperwork of changing the mailing address. Well, you can decide based on your specific situation, but hopefully the above helps you decide whether it is or isn't necessary.

Is the Police Certification good for one year, the officer told my wife that it was good for 6months only. And right now she is getting another one for the NVC, and currently waiting for the police paper, which cost 80rmb, but to get it translated and notarize it will be another 300rmb.

Is it really one year for it to expire. She lives in Xiamen.

Everything I've read seems to say it's valid for a year. I'm not sure why the officer said 6 months, but since he did say 6 months he could be right...?
