I received my NOA1 on 9 Nov 2011. I am an active duty naval officer. I just found out that active duty service members may be elligible for an expedite for deployment reasons. I wish someone had told me this 2 months ago. I called the USCIS military help line and they helped me submit my request to expedite. The same day, I received an email from the VSC asking me to submit a copy of my orders and a letter from me explaining my circumstances. I did so on 7 Feb 2011. I still have not heard anything back regarding the expedite request.

I just wanted to put that out there for any possible active duty service members in the forum. Feel free to contact me.

Juan

Yeah, I am in the navy as well and the expedite can be done once you get to the NVC as well. I have used that expedite option many times as my wife was denied her visa the first time at the consulate so I had to wait until it was sent back to Homeland Security and work it all over again, but I am finally at the end of the road a year and 1/2 later. There are many benefits out there for military even attorneys that do pro bono work for military.

I am sure it will be given approval. We availed of it too (sort of) It's for any military not just active duty (we are national guard) :)

My Journey:

We met through a study-abroad program in Shanghai, China in August of 2009

We got engaged March of 2010

I received my K1 VISA in 6 months (June-December 2010)

We were married 04/02/2011
I received my conditional 2-year greencard (AOS) in 2.5 months with no interview (April-June 2011)

Our son was born 02/03/2013

I received my masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology 04/17/2013

I received my 10-year greencard (ROC) in 3 months with no interview (March-June 2013)

My husband returned from deployment 06/20/2013

My naturalization journey took 4 months (April-August 2014)

I became a US citizen on 08/01/2014

Received passport in 3 weeks (regular processing)

Thank you, VJ! smile.png

The thing is though, my fiance is not allowed to give his military orders for deployment due to security reasons, so for the AOS stage, we are hoping a letter from someone higher in his chain of command will suffice. :) He is deploying sometime this year..

And for k1, we showed ranger school orders (hoping they would expedite because he would be unavailable to receive mail or calls for a long time).

my fiance is in the air force and has to go to the Emirates this dec.

is there any chance we can make use of the expedite as well? I got my noa1 on nov.22 2010.

the USCIS helpline told us no hurry, cuz we will be approved by dec. on the other hand, USCIS told us many ####### before. we used to live in Japan and could have gotten married there and filled the directly through the embassy.

but of course, no one told us...

Yes, he has to call the military help line number in USCIS, talk to a rep and ask to initiate an expedite request due to military deployment. Then USCIS will foward that request to the Service Center. The service center will contact your fiancee via email (in my case the same day). The email will ask him to fax a copy of orders (or a letter from his Commanding Officer), and a letter from him explaining his reason for his request. What I cannot tell you is how long it takes to get a response? I haven't gotten mine yet. I submitted my request on 4 Feb and faxed my documents on 7 Feb. I am still holding my breath. I hope this helps. Please let us know your progress to give us an idea on a time fram. Thanks and good luck!

Juan

really?!

this seems like a joke! first they didn't tell us that we could have gotten married in Japan and file directly through the embassy(that's way faster!), and now they tell us ###### on the help line...

what a bunch of jokers down there at VSC!

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I will talk to my fiance as soon as possible to start things moving!

again, thank you so much! first time after weeks that I got hope again. according to IGORs list, right now VSC has a standstill. the expedite would be a blessing!

my fiance called them and started the process. they said they gonna let us know within the next 5 days. wow...I am so nervous checking my mails now. I don't want to get my hope to high tho, what if they deny us the expedite?

if they do, can we try to talk to a supervisor or something?

it would be more than needed to get noa2 soon. otherwise I have no idea how we can settle everything before my fiance deploys in dec.

again. thank you for your post. if we get noa2 soon, I will hang up ur picture and light up a candle for u every day for the rest of my life!

In every single possible way. where is ur finace at? army, marines, navy or air force?
