Man, we are getting pounded here along the Russian River north of San Francisco, wind and rain. When this storm passes over the Rockies, it is going to be nasty!

Here is what happened yesterday, after some light rain:

  1. SONOMA COUNTY, Calif. -- The return of rain to the Bay Area Monday kicked off a week of projected stormy weather with problems on roads across the region, particularly in Sonoma County where the California Highway Patrol responded to dozens of accidents.
  2. One CHP officer described the driving conditions as "crazy" when describing how officers were racing from one emergency call to the next.
  3. The CHP said officers responded to more than 40 crashes across Sonoma County during Monday's storm.
  4. One of the worst accidents left two people seriously hurt in a head-on crash on highway 121. The CHP shut down the highway for about an hour while the wreckage was cleared.
  5. "A little too much rain and too much speed," said Highway Patrol Officer Jonathan Sloat. "People need to slow down and give themselves a little extra space between them and the car in front of them."
  6. A 16-year-old girl came close to being submerged when her vehicle landed in a creek on Bodega Highway near Grandview Road around 12:30 p.m., Sloat said. She suffered minor injuries in the crash.
  7. A Chevrolet sedan crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a Toyota on state Highway 116 at Mill Station Road in Sebastopol around 12:50 p.m., Sloat said.
  8. The 70-year-old Graton man driving the Toyota suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Palm Drive Hospital, Sloat said.
  9. Kirk Elrod, 43, of Sebastopol, the Chevrolet driver, was allegedly under the influence of prescription medication and was arrested on suspicion of DUI, Sloat said.
  10. Petaluma police responded to a rollover crash on D Street late Monday. The driver escaped injury after his Toyota landed on its top.
  11. Officers said they had little time for traffic enforcement as they responded to crash after crash.
  12. "That's exactly what's been going on all day long," explained Sloat. "Officers have been finishing one call and have to respond to another one."
  13. High wind warnings were posted on Bay Area bridges, making for a tricky drive for some motorists.
  14. "It's windy on the bridge," said San Rafael resident Deb Ettinger. "In my little rental car it was a little scary today."
  15. "When I accelerate from a stop, you kind of lose traction on your wheels," said Danny Mosto of San Mateo." To be honest I kind of enjoy it."
  16. KTVU meteorologist Bill Martin projected a wet week for the Bay Area as a string of cold winter storms coming from the Gulf of Alaska took aim at Northern California. What appears to be the strongest system will arrive by afternoon on Tuesday, delivering more substantial precipitation through the evening.
  17. That cold storm system will bring a winter storm warning to the Sierra, according to Martin, while the following system arriving Wednesday could deliver snow to Bay Area peaks.
  18. Two additional systems will arrive Thursday and Friday, with the second storm stretching into Saturday.
  19. With the heavier rain expected Tuesday, extra officers will be hitting Sonoma County highways to try to stay on top of what is shaping up to be another dangerous day on the roads.
  20. "Today was our heads up for what to expect tomorrow," said Sloat.
  21. Meanwhile, the wet and windy conditions also slowed air traffic at San Francisco International Airport with delays of up to three hours. No other Bay Area airports were currently reporting delays.

Yes I know. My company has a terminal in KCMO and I do get through there sometimes. I will send a message to your inbox later and let you have the address and let you know when I make it through long enough for some coffee.good.gif

We are fine, thanks. We didn't get washed or blown out to sea. The Sierra Nevada's are getting pounded now. Next storm will be tomorrow. :star:

Late summer, into fall. The sun was out this morning. Looks like showers today. The rain was just sheeting off the roof for a few minutes, now back to a light rain.
