Well my visa journey is coming to an end. After almost 5yrs of marriage i have decided to end our marriage. I am the USC btw. My husband has his 10yr GC. He has decided not to leave the country, and i am aware of the Affidavit of Support.

Ive looked on here but i didnt see if i need to contact USCIS at all about the dissolution of our marriage.

Thanks for any help!

I'm so sorry to hear that. I am sure the divorce documents and other stuff would be important for USCIS in the future should you decide another visa journey. I hope you find the strength to move on. Good luck.

....On a second thought, do you mind sharing what happened? Before you cut the cord, members' input on the reason you want to make that decision may change your mind and save your marriage.

Nope, as far as USCIS is conserned you had a marriage in good faith and allowed a permanent green-card.

Only thing you need to do is file an I-865 anytime you move, until one of the following occurs.

  • Sponsor passes away
  • Green-card holder passes away
  • Green-card holder works and is credited with 40 quarters around 10+ years depending on work, and income per quarter.
  • Green-card holder naturalizes and becomes a US citizen
  • Green-card holder leaves the USA and gives up residency status.

Nope, USCIS is out of the picture now.

If he's from the U.K. I'm sure he will file for naturalization ASAP and at that point your Affidavit of Support dies anyway.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

Yep he will have to file an AR-11.

I just mentioned I-865 as a reminder to you that you need to file this anytime you move.

Oh I'm so sorry to see this post! :(

Mary Lou, should you ever move during the 10 year period of validity of the affidavit, you will have to report that address change.

Our journey together on this earth has come to an end.

I will see you one day again, my love.
