Meeting Up in a Third Country

Well, I want to see My Tam again... but going all the way back to VN right now is definitely out. Is anyone aware of another country (about halfwayish :=) where both of us would be able to get a tourist visa relatively easily? Maybe something Europe? Hey, it would be a good excuse to see Europe at the same time as seeing her. (And that 3rd meeting will look good when she goes to her interview too)

Stephan,

If it were me, I would head to Turin Italy for the chocolate festival (Mar 25-Apr3) http://www.cioccola-to.it/home.php... the visa for her would be 60 Euros and no visa required for you. Here is where the visa to IT can be obtained http://www.ambhanoi.esteri.it/Ambasciata_Hanoi

I went a couple of years ago and went from Venice to Turin on the train and stopped in Verona & Milan along the way... Its northern italy and IMO its much like SAPA this time of year when it comes to the climate... Its off season now so the flights from the US to IT are cheaper...

I Met my Fiance' in Italy/France in 2010. She had a very difficult time getting a visa for the EU (via the Italian Embassy), and we provided a ton of information in order to get her the tourist visa. Even I contacted the Italian Embassy, but for a single woman, don't assume the EU countries will easily provide a visa. You'll have to submit flight plans, daily hotel reservations, and my fiance' even provided a copy of the deed to the land she owns.

To my understading. For Vnese to get an Europe Visa is very very hard. The only place I can think of is Japan, Korea OR Singaphor.

Good luck.

Japan is expensive, it is not a developing country. I would say to try China, go see some history maybe the great wall or something. Other choices would be the phillippines, or Australia, maybe Indonesia, or even south Africa, go on a safari or something. These are countries that are farily easy to get a visa to from Vietnam

Take it from me. Do not go to Japan. I went with my fiance a few times and I wish I didn't. Way to expensive. Try China or Hong Kong.

Agreed. We talked about it for a brief time, and ditched the idea when we found out a 3 star hotel in Tokyo costs around $400 a day. We also talked about Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand. She didn't have time to get a visa to Singapore. It would have been nearly impossible for her to get a visa to Taiwan. She didn't want to go to Thailand because of the relatively lax 'moral standards' compared to Vietnam.

We eventually just decided to have a holiday in Hoi An, Da Nang, and Da Lat.

China never made it onto our short list. From what I've been told, the superiority complex exhibited by the Chinese people who visit Vietnam is second only to visitors from Japan. There's also a sordid history between Vietnam and China that includes numerous wars, two of which were after the communists took over in 1975. My wife is still struggling with her innate dislike of the Chinese, but she's gradually warming up as she discovers the Chinese people in the US are not like the ones she encountered in Vietnam. When we go shopping she still examines each label and mumbles "Trung Quoc" and walks away if something is made in China.
