So what you are saying is pretty much that the Indian military helped Bengladesh free themselves from Pakistans influence?

Yes. Note that Indian intentions were not completely benevolent. They had the opportunity to neutralize the Pakistani threat on the East and they took it. The Indians also tried to milk their assistance for all it was worth... with the result that today Bangladeshis resent India just as much.

I would have imagined if India had helped Bengladeshis free themselves from being Urduized, that Bengladehi's would have less resentment to Indians...

Ungrateful folks

Hmm... when you mention the border thing it seems more like an illegal immigration issue than a pure disgusting hate for eachother... because it seems to me the hate and tension between India and Pakistan is always in full force...

That's only because India and Pakistan are more 'equal' in military terms. In a war, neither country would win. Both would get their asses kicked bad. Bangladesh is much weaker.

OK.. that makes more sense..

So you're saying if Bengladesh was bigger, had more money and more military power they WOULD try to mess up India really bad if they had the opportunity?

That's not really fair. Indians manipulated the early Bangladeshi governments (which were sympathetic to India) into building a dam that they knew would destroy large tracts of Bangladeshi farmland but benefit farmers in India. This is one reason Bangladeshis resent India today. India manipulated early and inexperienced Bangladeshi leaders into selling their own country out.

Yes. And India would hit right back. Double the mess. Who wants that? No one.. not even the Bangladeshis, which is why they don't even bother trying to build their military.
