Bored out of my skull until I can work....

I called the school district to see what volunteer oportunities they have. They said to call the school (the website said not to...ok then.) So I called my oldest sons middle school and the person I talked to could not have been less interested in my call. Nice. She said I could talk to the homeroom teacher. So I did.

The HR teacher almost fell out of her seat. She said you mean you want to come in and help us like in the day? I said yes. She was like wow yes that would be wonderful!! So she is getting a schedule for me to pick from. She wants me to go in to one or more of her reading classes and sit with the kids while they read to me one on one. The school is really pumping up the reading quality and some kids in gr 7 are only at a gr 1 or 2 reading level. She asked if I had a problem working with Spanish speaking with some of their pronunciation. Ummm no.

She was so excited! That is cool! My son is going to kill me lol. He said not to do it at his school but I think he will like it after I do it. I figured this way he is there for 2 yrs then the twins are there for 2 yrs so I can do stuff at that school for 4 yrs and it is a good foot in the door for a paying job when I can work.

I should hopefully know this week when I can go in. I am pretty excited too!

Congratulations Cristy. As an educator myself, we welcome volunteers at our school! There are so many kids that would benefit just from some one on one reading time and it sounds like you're going to be doing just that. So many kids fall between the cracks because it's so hard to give so much individual attention. My premise is, if you can't read you can't do anything! :D
