Hello all,

I'm pretty new to the site, and I'm really pleased with it. The information, the support - amazing!

I'd like to introduce myself and my story:

In 2008 I studied abroad in Santiago, Chile. During that time I met my fiance, Carlos. After the semester, I had to go back to the states, but we kept our relationship strong despite the painful distance. The next summer I was able to spend 3 more months in Chile with him, and had to return to the states yet again. He then applied for a tourist visa to visit me for Christmas in 2009. His visa was denied. After I graduated I moved to Chile, and we've been happily living together and working in Santiago for about a year now. This December he proposed (soooo excited!) and we are now on our visa journey hoping to be married in Wisconsin in June of 2012.

Greetings and valentine's wishes to all!

Nice to see you on the site...quite a few of us Chile people on here. My fiance and I had problems getting a tourist visa for him as well. I actually hear that people who do actually demonstrate ties to Chile have problems getting tourist visas. So you spent a year there? Why are you deciding to come back to the States? If for some fluke we don't get approved, I am actually thinking about living a few years there and directly filing through the consulate. Just curious...saying that you've lived there and all...welcome!

It's always fun to meet and hear about more Chilean-American couples. And it's reassuring to know we're not the only ones who have had tourist visa problems.

Anyways, to answer your questions: yes, I've been in Chile for a couple years and I really like it. The reasons we want to go to the states are to be closer to my family when we start our only family, and because we feel we have better job prospects in the states. So yes, I will be filing everything for the I-129F from here in Chile. I'm still not exactly sure what that means I have to do differently, though.

Again, great to meet you, and please, any questions down the road about Chile or living in Chile I have some experience and am happy to help! Best wishes for you, your fiance and the interview!!

Hey, my fiance and I have a fairly similar story.

I was studying abroad in Santiago last year. We met Feb 2010 and we started dating right away. I decided to hold off my studies for a semester to hang around and see where our relationship was heading. He officially proposed this January, and now I'm back at UW Madison (had to mention it because you said Wisconsin, haha) studying again. We tried getting him here on a student visa so that he could learn English and meet my family, with no intention to immigrate. However, he was denied for insufficient home ties (boo!)

Now we're trying to figure out how if I studied abroad in Australia for the second semester of 2011 (... Fall semester here, Spring semester there. @_@ The whole switch of seasons thing throws me off...) and if he came with me... how that would affect getting a fiance visa... him applying from Australia and all of that. It would allow him to study English, which means that he could then study in the US afterwards. Either way, we're depending on my parents as co-sponsors if we decide to go for the fiance visa.

We just want to be together, but he also wants to start studying again, after his "criminalistica" degree didn't pan out. So we're trying to figure out everything, and we're kind of rushed against the beginning of the school year in Chile. We'd both like for him to get an education here in the US... but we're afraid of getting denied again. :(

Are you guys planning on staying in Wisconsin after you're married? If we come back here, it would nice to meet another couple who has dealt with everything that we're going through.

Good luck with your journey!

Beth
