EAD SSN

After I get my visa back following the MTL interview, then I can enter the USA. How/where do you apply for a US ssn#? I filled out the part on the part on the application requesting a SSN immediately, but do I have to go somewhere and apply for it still? And if so, does it matter which state I go too? I will be living in Indiana, but I live 5 min's from Michigan and wondered if I can cross into the USA, apply for the SSN#, wait for that and my EAD and then move to Indiana. I still would like to have a job here in Canada and then be approved to work in the USA before I make the final move over.

you wont get an EAD because you will get an I-155 stamp in your passport it is a temp green card.

Your SSN will come to the mail at your place of residence listed for the US on the forms within a few weeks, same for the actual green card.

Yep, no EAd for you as the CR-1//IR-1 already has work authorization, so you can work right away. if after 10-14 Business days (ya can go earlier, to check, but thats what they recommend) no SSn (this happens a lot--even if you checked the box) Download the SSn form at http://ssa.gov/online/ss-5.html bring ur passport and birth cert and head to ur local SSN office and make an inquiry! If they have it in the system cool---If not, hand over that already filled out SSN form! Or you can just get a form at the office--just saving you the time/hassle of doing it at the office
