you can get one at the airport in Amman as soon as you land. It costs 10JD. I think it's good for 1 month, but you should read the stamp to make sure. You can renew it at any police station in Jordan by paying again and extending your trip. Check out: http://jordan.usembassy.gov/acs_travel_jor.html

What prices are you getting for fares round trip? And from where?

So far the cheapest I found is $1020 round trip and that is for about a 12 day trip. That is from search www.sidestep.com. From St. Louis to Amman.

Just on a side note. We called New Park Hotel. Since my fiance is Filipina they said they will allow her to stay in the hotel with me and rent a double for 28 JD. They have internet, breakfast, and a shuttle(costs extra) to and from the airport. They just told us we both will need our passports and she will need her residence visa. Which she can only get the visa since her passport is at the hospital. They said that is fine just bring the visa. :P

As I was reading one of the posts a memory popped in my head from my first trip. You will probably have to pay double at the hotels...at least the cheaper local ones. As I have seen online the larger big name hotels are very expensive. If you do not have the blue Jordanian family notebook showing that you two are married, then you will have to pay for 2 separate rooms. That happened to us in Petra. We were married, but the blue notebook wasn't ready before we traveled to Petra. They even sent us to the local police station to have them give us a paper showing we were married, but of course to no avail since they have nothing to do with it. It was a huge hassel. So we wound up paying for the extra room, but slept in the same room anyway. Just FYI.

In my stays in Jordan I have always felt safe and never threatened. It is much different for a woman though. But everyone I came in contact with, especially when they figured out I was American, was very friendly. Also, be aware in several spots like entering into Aqaba and spots near the Jordan Valley, there are check points and you will have to show your ID. So make sure you have your passport handy on all trips to show your ID to the military and/or police. Also...do not take pictures of military or military protected areas. On our last trip to Aqaba we went through the military checkpoint, we stopped at the visitor center to use the bathroom. There was a beautiful tree with flowers on it and I started taking pictures. The military at the checkpoint stopped us on the way out and made us delete all pictures I had taken since it is a secure area. Little scary, but they were really nice about it.

Take care when crossing the street, as others have mentioned the driving is insane there. Make sure you cross quickly and when it is safe! Also, since you are a man, just make sure you take care when you interact with women. Do not shake hands, hug, etc. Oh & no kissing your fiance in public. Holding hands is ok, but no PDA as that is highly intolerable and frowned upon. Again, all of this is from experience as we got in trouble for kissing in a remote corner of the Citadel in Amman (lol). As I replied in your other post, please let me know if you have any questions...I'm glad to help if I can!

What color were the tree's flowers?

We managed to get into Aqaba without any valid ID past the checkpoint. I later found my DL but my passport was in our apartment or at home in Hartha.. I dunno. But anyway, I had no id and we found out that his DL had expired and he had left his national ID with my passport. Awesome. Took a couple of minutes, but we got in.

ETA: ^^ would not recommend that way of entering.. bring your ID!
