For me, I get 4 weeks of vacation and my fiance moved to northern Mexico to be closer to me and make it easier to do weekend trips. He is just a 3.5 hour drive from Phoenix. So I fly Southwest to Phoenix and then either take shuttle or rent a car. Southwest is so cheap and normally I get about 3 to 4 freebie tickets a year. Biggest expense would be car rental and mexican auto insurance and if we decide to go to fancy dinners and drink a lot. But believe me I watch my spending in US so I can afford to go to Mexico so often.

Have fun Cass!!

I, too, am envious of not being able to do a 'long weekend' journey, but we've been fortunate this year to already have had 2 visits. The next one will be me flying over in November. :)(L)

I've been very lucky that throughout the process I've had a well-paying job (I had to sell my soul for it, but whatever). If we would have met 2 years ago, while I was still in college. We'd be lucky to see each other once a freaking year.

Also, I'm very lucky to have a fiance who has NO debt and NO bills (no car, no cell phone, no credit cards, no nothing). And who works 3rd shift full-time. So all his money is pretty much dedicated to our plane tickets, our K1 fees/trips, and our long-distance bills.

:star: Cass (bebop the great)

I did that once...planned my second trip around my birthday (and Thanksgiving) since I got 2 days off from work paid, but the plane tickets were so outrageously more expensive for traveling around the holiday that we decided we probably couldn't do that again. I'm also the only one of the two of us who is gainfully employed, and to say that is even stretching it...

Haha, I am so not packed yet.

That's tonight's mission.

:star: Cass (bebop the great)

Are you packed yet!! You might be forgetting something! LOL

That was really nice of your fiance to move closer. My fiance lives in Michoacan with his family, and he can't afford to move, or really survive on his own (poor little guy) so I take a plane down to Guadalajara, then we drive 3 hours to his hometown, but we have to stay in a hotel since he lives with his parents and they don't have air conditioning, or space for us. So there's $600 for plane tickets, plus his gas back and forth to pick me up, also hotel for a week can end up being another $500. Then we have to eat-which, even though we don't eat anything fancy or drink alcohol, still manages to add up. I don't know why we can't get a nice little system down like some of you seem to have-I would just love to find a better (cheaper) way!

See, that's a MAJOR place where we save money. My fiance still lives with his parents and so I stay there with them and we normally eat family dinners and the such. So no money for hotels or food really. That stuff can add up SO quickly.

Family dinners...oh I'm jealous! :P Just kidding. It's probably me being overly cautious, but I don't eat anything his mom cooks-gotta be careful down in Mexico! That's why I've told him to buy a house so we can have a place of our own where I can come and stay...and cook! Wouldn't that be cute-a little home away from home, would be much more fun than hotels...

Congratulations on the upcoming visit! The longest time Joel and I had to be apart at one time was 5 months. That was hard! Still, we managed it. Hope this visit is fantabulous for you both!
